both himself and Groner and
Rowell. That in so fir as said
letter refers to- E. B. Ton ue. it
is absolutely false and untrue.
He never at any time haJ any
thing to do with rlther of said
cases, and neither of us has at
any time held any convemMon
concerning said cases. Therefore
E. B. Tongue, "Never told us or
eitncr or us that he would not
prosecute Groner and Rowell be
cause they were any customers
oi nis,- ana mat neither or us
ever mado any such statement
to Wenstrom, and such state
ment by Wenstrom is false."
Thos. II. Tongue has handled
the.se bases from the beginning,
and he has ALWAYS BEEN
willing to prosecute the Groner
and Rowell cast whenever, we
'presented him with certain evi
dence, which we all agreed was
material and necessary to obtain
a conviction. This evidence was
not secured until a few days ago
and when so secured the case
was immediately set down for
trial.
The attack therefore by Wen
strom is a baso misrepresentation
of the facts. ,
While our work extends over

political record is such that he can E.riJMlrfi Wfo tH V'W,t-lSfts,t
not possibly be elected.
Mr. Morton is unknown to the
majority of the people and can hard
ly expect to figure in the race. Mr.
Selling is widely known, is a Success
ful business man, has been a consis
tent Republican and a progressive
and he has all his interests in Ore
gon. He has been a State Senator j
and rraJe good. He is capable and '
honest. Therefore it looks reason- j
able that Mr. Selling should receive j
tie Republican nomination for this:
office and should he -do so, and be
elected and would be a Senator who f
would carefully guard the interests l
of Oregon and at all times have the j
full confidence of the people.
