for Mr. Reid and after doing a part ol
the work ho decided to thro' it up, but
then lie quit, h alleged that Reid rami

with costs, the amount paid by Mr.
Reid was aliout 135.

Amo R. Slavens, of Portland, wh
has been doing the Unit-bin work on
the new residence of Cha. Muckle, re
turned to hi home in Portland ou the
Hasaalo lant Tuesday atteruoou. Mr
Slavens is a former resident of this
section and enjoyed the time be put in
working here to the full extent.
A numlr of the tennl enthusiants tif
this place got together last Mouday
night and organized a tennis club, with
Mr. Rutherford as the president and
manager and M. C. Uray as the Sec
retary and treasurer. Work ou a couple
of court near the place where the old
club had their's will Hart at once and
the members will be able to play in a
very short time. The land where the
court will be located is the property
of Mr. Chas. Muckle, and it is largely
through hi generosity that the club is
able to organize.
Mr. M. Ritter, of Portland, has pur
chased 500 acre of the Noon ranch and
will go into the dairy business there on
a large scale. His place will D" be
tween the country road and the Wil
lamette Slough, and include what is
known as the old Copeland place.
Rev. A. A. Heist returned to this
city lost Saturday evening on the Iralda,
after about a six week' siege of typhoid
fever, during which time he ha been in
the hospital in Portland. It will be
some time before he will be able to oc
cupy the pulpit.
Father Hruenagle, of the Rainier Cath
olic Church, was a visitor to this city
last Wednesday, coming np for the pur
pose of letting the contract for the
building of a Catholic Church at this
place. Luigi Rosasco has donated a
suitable lot for the purpose near hi re
sidence and there was no difficulty in
raising the fund wheu the eaerget,C

Order No. 4, Series I'.MO-ll, regularly
issued by General W.J.R. Beach, Com
mnnder of the department of Oregon
through C. A. Williams, assistant Ad
jutant General, completed program for
Memorial service at this place as follow;
(in Sunday, May 28tb, Ht 11 a. in., a
memorial sermon will be preached in
Keusey's Hall, at which the l'ost will be
presunt in a body, and who love to do
honor to our National benefactors who
sleep ar invited to participate.
Ou Tuesday, May 30th, at I0:o0 a. m.
all veteran will please meet at Keasey's
Hall and march under Old Glory to the
cemetery, a here the usnal services of
decorating all veterans graves and others
will take place, after winch, we are
glad to announce, we have been so for
tunate a to get tie services of our
estimable com maoder, Hon. C. A. Will
iams, who will'be the orator of the day.
His gentle deportment and kind heart
make hint a m.ignet even if we are to
admit his own word, "I am not an or
ator, but I can talk a little after a
fashion." After the oration all are to
return to Keasey'a Hall, where a bakc
dinner or lunch will be served with an
hour or two spent socially, with some
patriotic music. Everybody who wishes
to express their appreciation of the work
of the American soldier come, and doiit
forget the basket on the 30tb.
