CALL AND SEE US
Our friends throughout Colum
bia County, when they visit the
county seat, are invited to call
and see us at our new office in
the City Hall building. It is
seven years since tne present
proprietor took charge of the
Mist, and during that time the
circulation of the paper has near
ly doubled and its patronage ha3
increased over fourfold. It was
then printed on a hand press, and
the small room it occupied was
ample for its presses and ma
chinery. Now it is printed on a
power press, the motive power
being a water motor run by the
city water works. The paper is
now an "all home print," a
change which we trust our pa
trons appreciate, and we intend,
during the year 1911, to do our
utmost to make the Mist a wel
come visitor in every home in the
county. The paper has stood and i
will continue to stand for what j
. .. , it. 1 1.
we believe to oe ior ine oest
good of all the people,
judge for each county, with juris
diction over probate matters.
The office of County Judge could
then be abolished and all county
business transacted by a board
of three commissioners.
BOURNE AND THE PARTY
There are a great many Repub
licans in Oregon who wish to see
Jonathan Bourne defeated if he
shall be a candidate for United
States Senator in 1912. Some of
them will, if Mr. Bourne is nomi
nated by the direct primary, do
their best to elect a Democratic
United States Senator, and we
have no doubt they will succeed.
In doing so they will only be fol
lowing the example set by Bourne
and his followers in the recent
campaign. The situation, from
a Democratic standpoint, is all
that could be desired. The only
way in which it can be changed
for the better is by the elimina
tion of Mr. Bourne as a sena
torial possibility, and this can be
done only by the candidacy of a
stronger man, and the full ac
ceptance of Statement No. 1.
The people have decided, repeat
edly, in favor of this principle
and against the assembly method
of nominating or suggesting can
dates, and during the recent cam
paign no voice was heard in favor
of the assembly. Opposition to
the people's will by his enemies
has been the great source of Sen
ator Bourne's strength. If it is
persisted in he will be nominated
and in all probability the next
Senator from Oregon will be a
Democrat.

Tom, Tout, tha piper's ten.
Thought to steal another one.

He thought upon tlis consequence,
And what he probablr would get

The money Cudahy would spend
To push it to the bitter end.

The sum that Armour, i( he lied.

He wisely passed the butchers door.

A BENEFACTOR
HIS ENEMIES
The greatest of the Socialist
papers, the Appeal to Reason, is
a bitter foe of Theodore Roose

the widespread unpreparedness for

making each oue of bis soldiers tome
kind of a present, even suggested push

the Roman merchants protested that it
was impossible to sell holiday goods ex

The custom of giving presents was
