Thia tefsnns, we are quite certain,
has good and defensible' nses, and el
of its manifestation, thns far have ben
only ahnss The idea, a we regaarf it
is not that it should be the cue of anv
more serious matter than locking the
arator'rfjaws.
You know'that we never""hear of it
except on the Fourfi of July, and
whenever some innocent gets it we for
ever are wonderfng'wby. Well, this is
the fact of the matter, and by jove we
are willing fo bet it tarn, out in the
long mn (bat no one bnt' a lot of old
wind-jammers get it.
However, be that aa it may be.
And get whom the tetanus will.
The jubilant youth of th' nation
Will resume with its shooting to kill.
The safe end the sane celebration
Will suit us who are not- so skittish,
But the vonn;sters have got to do some-
ihing
To show what we did to the British,
There never was anything safe in the
way the forefathers sttscked them, and
ss for the saner attainments, the old
fellow, seem to have lacked them. They
simply cast fear to the bowwows and
waded into the affray, an 1 a boy does
not think himself worthy if he can.t
shoot himself any way.
At any rate Jeffries and Johnson will
growl like a couple of poodles and oh
serre independence with beating the
hair off their mutual noodles. They'll
alternate making the other leviathan
howl for his mo'her.'and if the country
at rnndom is lucky'.they'll manage to
kill one another.
. It's only a plan to make money, de
serving the strictest of strictures, for
what they will have is a race war, di
viding what's made on the p.ctures.
We've been pretty mad in thia country
for dollars, and power, and places; bnt
this is the first time we've trafficked up
on the abyss between races.
