Judge Uoodin stated the Oregon Iron
steel company of 1'ortland bad of

rock at their quarry near Beaverton
gratis, and that the Southern Pacific
would baul it at 25 cent a ton. Tbe
scheme of the court is to install a
crusher at the quarry for permanent
use. Crushed rock can be delivered to
tbe Base Line road at one-half the
present cost, or at (1 a cubie yard.

Wallowa Extensive stock shipments
have beeu made from tins county
within the past week, 21 ear of cattle
and nine curs of hogs having been
shipped to the Portland and Seattle
markets. A car of hogs belonging to
C. H. Allen contained 95 porkers, which
averaged 252 pounds each, while four
of tho beat ones tipped the scale at
1,842 pounds, an average weight Of
I till pounds. Mr. Allen received $3.10

FRUIT MEN TO GATHER.
Stat. Horticultural Society to Convene

Oregon fruit grower from the or
chard district in every part of the
state will meet in Portland next week
for tbe twenty fourth annual meeting
of tbe Oregon State Horticultural So
eiety. In addition to the buaineaa ses
sions of tbe society, which are of great
interest to horticulturist generally, it
i expected that the finest display of
appie ever maue in rortiand will b
shown in tbe auditorium on tbe fifth
floor of the Meier ft Frank annex,
where tbe aeasion of the society will
be held.
About $1000 in premium In cash and
medal will be offered exhibitor for
the best fruit displays, and thi feature
of the meeting promises to be a notable
one.
Many who are Interested both in hor
ticulture and in dairying will attend
both the meeting of the Horticultural
society and tbose of the Oregon State
Dairy association, which will bold its
meetings in the Woodmen of the World
hall immediately following the horti
cultural society meeting. The railroads
nave offered special rate of a fare and
third for tbe round trip for both
meetings.
