GRASSES WASTED
Sow is the time to send in the best
specimens procurable of lirasees aud
Forage Hants. I want as Urge a collec
tion of these as possible (or Columbia
County's exhibit at the State lair. I
know the season has been unfavorable,
but it has been better in Colninbia
County than In many other sections of
the State with which we may have to
compete. There is nothing advertites a
county better than it's grasses, and we
certainly giow them to perfection in
Columbia County. Some have been tent
iu, but I want a large quantity, and I
want them from every part of the
county. It is not much trouble lor auy
farmer to bring or send in a few speci
mens, and it will help greatly in making
creditable showing. Now is the time,
and I sincerely hope, before another
week fjoes by to have received a large
number of good samples of alsike, red
top, timothy, alfalfa, vetch, wild pea,
orchard grass, and in fact of all the dif
ferent varieties of grasses and forage
plants grown in Columbia County.
Send them or bring them direct to me,
properly lablled. Act now, while you
have it in your mind. Send to

The Miraculous Box.
(Washington Star)
Luther Burbaok, at a dinner in Santa
Rosa, replied modestly with an anec
dote to a eulogy of his new creation, the
spineless cactus.
"Really, you know," said the plant
wizard, "the spineless cactus is noth
ing like so marvelous as the straw-tjerry
box that the fashionable fruiterer of ti e
East uses. That is a creation indeed !
lie tmiled.
"A fashionable fruiterer," hi: mil'
"told hia new boy one Juue morning to
go to the back of his shop and Oil a box
with two-dollar strawberries for Mrs.
Van Guide.
"The boy a moment later called fruui
the rear:
" 'Hey, there ain't enough Iwnies
here to fill this box."
"The fruiterer buried back himself.
He looked at the box, tLen he aneeied
at the boy.
" Why, you young greenhorn he
said, 'you've gut it upside down !' "
The Burning Question.
- (Success Magazine)
A Baltimore teacher was trying to ex

comes your father returns homo tired
and worn out, doesn't he?"
"Yea, ma'am" assented Charley.
"Then," continued the teacher, ' it
being night, and he being tired, what
does he do?"
"That's what ma wants to know,"
said Charley.
