A new freight rate schedule from

The new rates will bo based upon
the rates which the Interstate Com

The railroads decided to do this in

Much Suffering and Death In Wake of
Kansas Tornado.
Kansas City, May 17. A recapitu

Northwestern Missouri and Eastern

The principal damage waa done at
Hollis, a town of 150 inhabitants, near
Concordia, Kansas, and at Mount
Washington, Ma, a suburb eight miles
east of Kansas City. In both of these
places practically every house was
either damaged or demolished, and

Mount Washington, Mo., 22, three

Near Great Bend, Kansas, 20, mostly

Hollis, Kansas, three.
Kosedale View, Kansas, a suburb of
Kansas City, two. In the vicinity of

The storm followded a terrific down
pour of rain. The wind came up sud

warning, and striking the small terri

completely. Frame houses were crusn

"Not only have the wo-a of
worklngmen been raised by the strikes
In this country, but the whole moral

to members of tbe League fur Political
Education who gathered In New York
city recently, where he addressed them
on The Moral t'pllft of the Strike"
"There Is no phnse so much ills-

said. "To understand the moral luftu

derstand the lileais of the strikers.
"The Amerli'iiii workman wants tbe

"A strike attributed to an apparent
ly trival matter Is often caused by a
pent pp feeling resulting from months
and months of continued aggression
It Is often sold that the walking
tlelegsie calls a strike for th benefit
of his own porket. This Is not true,
for every strike means a Imw to hint.
In fnct, the remuneration of the walk

"Roughly speaking, tba avernge

words, tbe workmen of th United
Stales have lost less time ln strikes
than from the celebration of the
Fourth of July.
A strike cannot be won by a single
action. It requires tba greatest en
durance and patience. The striker
must refrain from any hostility to
ward the men who have been Imported

"The amount of violence In strikes
Is greatly overdrawn. It Is a matter
of record that there sr more people
