for District No. 8 wa held at tbe Court
bouse in St, Helens on December 20 aud
a twoand one-half mill ta wa levied
to be expended as follow. Tbe cut on
the "Bailey Hill" to be widened and
straightened at an estimated cost of J250;
alio all of tbe road to be covered with
crushed rock at an estimated cost ot
$500. Tbe St. Ileient-Portlaad road to
bav crufhed rock between tbe Millard
road and Milton Creek bridge, at a cost
of 7S0. Tbe Deer Island road from near
tbe Meeker place to a point about 100
feet north of the Meeker bridge to have
crushed rock to the amount of 500 The
Rachel r Flat road commencing at a
point at the weat end ot Milton Creek
bridge and extending to a point d i recti
oppocile the residence on the Mockle
place to have crushed rock to the amount
of ftiOO. Yankton road commencing at a
point on top of tbe hill directly opposite
tbe residence of Fred Frantz to the Milton
Creek B'idge to be cleared, graded and
covered with crushed rock at an estima

Dhath of Co Ewing Con Ewing,
well known in this county, died at the
borne of his sistsr, Mary Ewing, in Tole
do, Lincoln County, December 23rd, and
wa buried in the family burying ground
at Mnyger, on the 25th. Tbe cause of
hi deatli wa paralysis. He was first
stneaen at Clifton, while at work in a
logging ctuip, and was afterwards t ikeo
to his sit. r't borne where he received
tbe kindest trealmeut t t e day of bis
death. He leavf bis mother, Mrs. N.
J. Ewing, of Portland, and four sister
Miss Mary Twing, Mr. J. G. Watts,

hearted young man, end had many warm
friend. The funeral wa qiii'e largely
attended, notwithstanding there was a

whether a strip ol land largo enough to

thorough test, and if too. ml to be a pay

to have burglarized Butts' saloon at

stolen various articles from the residence

3,000. Fortunately for the taxpayers
court meet in a short time.
