The new administration and jobbing
hone building arreted by the W, L.
Douglas 8hoe Co. aa a part of its mam
moth manufacturing plant in Brockton,
Mass., was dedicated Jan 19. The
program included open house fiom 11
la the morning until 8 in the evening.
There was a musical program and re
heahments were served all daj. Fif
teen thousand invitations were sent oat
Including over 11,600 retail dealers in
the United States who bandied the W.
L. Douglas shoes. Mr. Douglas says
that his three large factories, also the
ew bnilding jnst dedicated, will al
ways be open to inspection and visitors
from everywhere will be welcome.
The new jobbing house just dedicat
ed will enable hurry orders for Douglas
shoes to be shipped the same day they
re received. The new building is 260
feet long, 60 feet wide and two stories
high. The jobbing department occu
pies the entire lower floor and the new
offices of the Douglas Shoe company oc
cupy the entire second floor. In the
sew building there will be special offices
oecunied by the Western Union and
Postal Telegraph com panics; also by
the telephone companies and there is
an elaborate mailing department. The
completion ot this nsw administration
buildim marks the establishment of
modern, np to-date wholeeale jobbing
hones and office bnilding.
Mr. Douglas has long considered the
advisability of a jobbing bouse, not
only for the purpose of supplying bis
own retail stores more readily, but that
the 11.000 dealers throughout the
United State handling the W. L
Douglas shoes might be able to obtain
shoes tor immediate use with greater
facility.
The new bnilding is said to be the
most complete and convenient of any
ever built for a commercial house in
the United State, so were tbe expres
sions of appreciation by the many per
sons who visited it for inspection sin
cere and ot a highly congratulatory na
tare. Architertural beauty as well ss
adaptability to the uses to which it is
to be put has been tbe aim in construc
tion, and the result is most satisfactory,
to tha visitor as well as tbe firm.
