Rainier, Oa., Mat 22, 1906,
- Whereas, In view of the unfavorable
advertising that Rainier has been re.
eemng in the daily papers of Portland
recently, and in order to set the matter
right before the general public, Be it
Resolved, That we, the undersigned
citizens, business men and property
owners of the town of Rainier, depre
cate the controversy now being waged
jn the newspapers, especially the Ore
gonian, concerning the people of the
town, exaggerating every instance
technical violation of the law, mistatlng
and perverting of facts to suit their own
end and representing the town as a den
pi vice and iniquity, when in fact it is as
law abiding aud orderly as there is in
the State of Oregon. The bitter war now
being waged between the ealcon and
anti-saloon elements to further their
pwn personal and political ends, the
way-laying and beating of Mr. Fischer
we condemn in the strongest terms.
peither do we condone nor approve of
writing of falsehoods and mis-statements
for publication. Rainier, of course, is
po paradise, neither is it the hell-bole
which some have painted it to be by
their distorted statements that have
been published. The state of affairs
spoken of by the grand jury does not
exist here, and we, as citizens, protest
gainst such unjust criticism, and be
lieve that bad the business men and
property owners been, ocgoigant 4 guch
proceedings, and had been given an op
iaortoaity to refute them, the report
would have been entirely different, had
any been made on the subject; and fur
ther be it
Resolved, That we consider the city
council full competent to manage the
affahs of the town ; that the city marshal
an efficient officer and is doing his
fluty; that the statement tbt t!e saloons
re run wide open on Sunday are abso
jutely false and wilho'it foundation.

THE COUNTY TICKET.
Tc tiipr onv rr-nson that can be triven whv a single demo

tactics of attempting to "swipe" off an office here and tberu.
The Mist proposes to make a brief review of the ticket, iu
order that those who may not be well acquainted with the
candidates may understand just what the Kepumican party
offers to the voters:

the largest farms in Columbia county, xiis sympami.

and he may be relied upon to stand fur whatever is best for
their interests. He is also a shrewd business man and BO
one will be able to use him as a tool for their designs. Ha
will come as near knowing what he is doing as any man at
Salem, and he will not plead ignorance as a justicausD ui
any vote he may cast. Mr. Connell is but twenty-six ye
of asre: he is ambitious, and he knows full well that his only
hope of future success is in tne approval ui mc vuw, vu..

that of the Republican nominee ior uoycrum, hh

FOR SHERIFF.
Martin White is so well known to the voters and his ad.
ministration of his office has been so satisfactory that no one
is attempting to dispute the election with him. Ha has

going to hire them over again.
FOR COUNTY CLnKK,
Mr. W. A. Harris represents competency aud industry.
Not a word will be heard against his ability tq condact the
office. At the time of the direct primaries Mr. Harris was
in the East, and in his absence, without any eiiort upon ms
part, the Republican voters chose him fox their nominee over
amost worthy competitor. So far as Republican voters are
concerned, especially those who took part in the primary
election, they are in honor bound to giye Mr, Harris their
full support at the polls on Tuesday next.
FOR COMMISSIONER,
Harry West, of Scappqose, will be the next county com-
nissioner, ana ne wui maKe ju&i. as guw uu wv,
Srnnnnocer. Phil Frakes. He will not be swayed by every
person who approaches him, but he will give careful consider-

FOR TRFASVRER.
Dr. Edwin Ross takes it because no one else seemed to
want it. He waited quite a while before announcing hia canr
didacy for renomination, but everybody seemed satisfied that
the money was safe in his hands, so he will serve for an
other two years by general consent.
FOR CORONER.
One of the gravest undertakings in the county is the office
ofcoioner. No other has such a serious and solemn aspect.
It is certainly one office in which partisan politics plays no
part, and therefore it has become a time honored custom to
give it to the hottest politician in the county, Dr. Harry R.
Cliff, of St. Helens. m . '
Look your ticket over and you will find that it is an ex
cellent one. You helped nominate it, and we hope you will
not fail to do your duty to help elect it.
