STRONG ARGUMENTS FOR A
DENSE D MILK FACTORY.
ION
As heretofore mentioned in The Mist,
the business of condensing milk is I
profitable one, and dairymen usually re'
ceive better prices for their milk pro
duct than creameries ran afford to par.
It bas been just about a year since the
condensed inilk factory was established
at Forest Grove, many of the residents
taking stock or contributing a bonus to
the enterprise. The Times, of Forest
Grove, last week interviewed a number
of business men on the results of the es
tablishment of the factory, and received
the most gratifying results. Bank de
posits have increased one-third in the
past year, and the merchants stale that
nearly all the farmers nuw paying cash
after pav day at the fa-toiy, instead of
siting until after a crop is harvested.
There is no petier location for a con
densed milk factory in Oregon than St.
Helens, with both rail and deep water
transportation.
' The report of the viewers in the nat
WofllieC.il. Knlili road, was ac
cepted, and the change in the road or
dered. The cleik was ordered to draw
a warrant in favor of I'. Hughe for
damages in the uiu of VM in accord
ance with the i e port of the lioard of
viewers.
In the matter of the proposed altera
tion of I he Mad in the vicinity of con
demned Pittsburg btidge, it was order
ed that a call be made tor sealed bids
for its improvement.

Monday night a move was made to aid
in extending the St. Helena and Yank
ton telephone line from Valley to I'itts
burg. Councilmeu White, Slaughter,
McKie and Miles each subscribed one
mile of w ire, w hile Recorder Cox and
Treasurer Quick each donated one-hali

proposed route offer to furbish the poles
and do the construction work, provided
the wire and insulators aie furnished.
This means that the greater part of Co

still be connected wi:h SU Helens by a
