Death of John Atkins.
John Atkina, a well known reeident
of St. Helen for the past 19 yearadied
at hi home here, aged about 69. The
funeral was held Saturday, tha services
belna conducted by Rev. CUE. Phil
brook. Atkins bad been In poor -health
for some time past, and ended a three
week oonrse of treatment in a Port
land hospital, a few daya previous to
hi death. .
Mr. Atkins was a native of Germany,
but served in the United State army
during- the late civil war. He came
here with Joseph Haybnrn and C. U.
Cable 19 year ago, and tor a number of
years carried on tha business of manu
facturing kegs and barrels. When he
died, his old friende, Cable and Hay
burn looked after the detail of his fun
eral. The deceased left an uncle and
nephew, somewhere tn the Eaat. He
wa held in high esteem by his acquain
tance and friends.
