- Tha raffular monthly meeting of th
City Council wa bald Monday night,
and th principal matter that- came up
for consideration, waa a proposition from
tha &U Ilelent, Light aud Water Com
pany to get a new franchise from the
city or tell it plant to the municipality.
The matter, of a franchise waa not con
aiderad, but the proposition for the city
to aoquire tha water system waa referred
to a committee, consisting of councilman
M. O. Gray end G. F. Slaughter.
Oaths follow lug day th committee
held a conference with the water com
pany, aad the latter agreed to sell their
plant to the city for $3000' in conjunction
with an agreement to drop the matter of
t8 jaontli water rent, which tha city
haa been holding back on account of

litigation in ti.a past. It ia believed
that tha council will accept thia proposi

work In a very short time.
It ia believed that the city can operate
th water works with much let expense
than a private corporation, aa much of
the work will be don by a city counci 1
committee without oompcniation. Some
needed improvements, also will be made
by the city.
