of a boom these days, and business of

land are being made.' The Beusoa
Logging & Lpwbering Company are
purchasing timber lands as fast as tbe
examination and contract can be made.
8. Benson, of Portland, president of
tbe Benson Logging it Lumbering Com
pany, was in Clatskanie a few daya ago,
arranging for a preliminary survey of
their proposed new logging railroad.
The road will be built np the Clatskanie
river and extended into the Mthalem
valley over a low pass, and will tap
thousands of acres of the finest timber
lands. Mr. Benson ia already securing
the right of way through various tracts
of laud, and operations on the road will
shortly be commenced. Jt ia inteded to
eventually use the road for freight and
and passenger trallic a well is for log
ging purposes. The road, also will
