holds have become considerably mod
ernized In their arrangements, even
aping the ways of Paris. But conser
vative Turks frown on such new-fangled
ways.
In a conservative Turkish household,
rich or poor, no tables nre used aud
chairs are unknown. Instead, there ia
a huge wooden frame In the middle of
the room about eighteen Inches high.
