A meeting of patriotic cltlrena wat held
at the opera hall In this city latl Baturday
evuning, at which time epeecbea were made
by our leading citizens and singing of na
tional airs and patriotic tonga were listened
to. Mr. W. H. Dolman presided, and the
exerclnes were of a nature to create great
enthusiasm among our people In regard to
the preaent struggle between this country
and Bpuln. Pr. O. W. Oue, presiding elder
of the M. E. church, waa the principal
speaker, and bla remarka covered a broad
range, the principle port being, however.
In relating bla experience during the lute
civil war, hie subject being "War Reminis
cences." The doctor held the audience with
his interesting remarks for over an hour.
Ho repeatedly called the attention of bis
listeners to the important duty of assisting
Our exeoutlve In every possible way during
the present conflict, appealing to their pa
triotism in this sense.
Mr. W. F. Tlmmons followed Dr. Oue
tth an address which certainly appealed
to the true American spirit. His remarks
were well chosen and ably delivered. He
said It wat a time when there should be no
populixts, ao republicans, no democrats,
but all true, loval American citiseus.
Mr. W. B. Dlllard dwelt at length upon
the treachery and atrocities of the Span
lards as rsgards not only America, but
other nations, and his remarks were tuch
at to create the greatett enthusiasm.
Others tpoke in practically the tame
strain, among them being Mr. Judaon
Weed, Mr. E. E. Qaick, Dr. H. K. Vita,
Mr. G. A. Hall and others.
At about 10 : 30 the exerclaaa were brought
to a close by the audience and oholr sing
ing "America," amid the utmost entbus
lasra and cheering.
Practically the same kind of a demonstra
tion took place at Houltoa Monday even'
ing, when the volunteer company from this
city marched in a body to the ball at that
place, accompanied by many citizens, where
a large orowd gieeted them, and apeecnes
were made and patriotio airs rendered.
SDetches were made by Messrs. Judsoo
Weed, M. O. Gray, Dr. E. Boss, u. A. nan,
W. H. Dolman. Kev. W. I Blackwell, Uapt.
Henderson, Dr. H. B. Cliff and others. The
exercises were brought to a close about 10
o'clock with three cheers for the start - and
strives, three cbeere for President Kin-
lev, aud three cheers for the Columbia
county volunteers.

applauded, as was "My isU is Kngineer

Madge Hiatt sang "O, fair Dove" qnlte
