her a victim of consumption which
she heraelf recognised some daya be

She passed away very peacefully about

At 2 P. M. Tuesday funeral services

One absorbing topic of intereat dur
ing the week eras the discussion of the
action of the school board mentioned
in your issue of the 4th. It seems
that Frofeeaor Hawea, who waa abeent
during ihe vacation, failed to get word
of the change made and the retire
ment of the principal at the close of
the term of four months, and return
ing on Sunday evening found that his
eituation had vaniahed and be was not
exuected to resume school woik. Hie
return seemed to frighten the lad
who bad ben employed to continue
ihe schools for an additional two
monthe and they promptly sent in
their resignations, whereuiion the
board decided to continue the vaca
lion, at leaat during the continuance
of the deep anowand eery disagreeable
weather prevailing at that time. Sun
dry reports made to Profesinr Hawea
aroused hie ire. and on Monday, meet
ing one member of tbe school board
in the office of W. H. Conyera, a few
words passing between them were fol
lowed by an assault on the director,
which wss promptly checked by others
present. A few friends ol the proies
sor circulated a petition asking for his
reinstatement to leach our additional
two monthe and begin school on Mon
day the 14th. The petition met with
no favor from the school board, who
felt justified in taking the action they
bad taken and the professor thereupon
packed his grip and bade farewell to
the town on Friday evening. It is
rumored thst Ihe members of the
school board intend to resign and re
lieve themaelves of the attempt to
please the publio in school matters.
