The attention of the city council ia

with every deacription of triish, from
the mill to the court home, and it
appearance I a standing disgrace to
the town. Under any circumstance
l his mutter should be attended to fur
the oredil of the city, and the fact that
we are soon to entertain a large num

orities to take immediate action. A
few hour' work would make a decided
d lifer once in the looks of our principal
street and the city cannot afford to be
at all parsimonious in this very Im

matter attended to at once and avoid
the juat criticism which are sure to
be made if a lurgr number of stranger

streets looking worse than the Chi

If good committee work counts for
anything in preparing for a public
demonatration, we are sure of mak
ing the celebration at this place next
Tuesday, a fluttering success. Kvety
detail has beon carefully looked after
by the executive committee Which
body has spared noitlier time or money
to have everything ready when the
sun rises next Tuneday, and has done
il work thoroughly and well. A little
friction ha been encountered with one
ortwoof the sub-comniittoesbut where
the chairmen of those committees
have lagged or beon negligent in per
forming their allotted duties the exec
utive committee has gone ahead with
the work and will. see that nothing is
neglected. The park i in the pink ol
coudition and large enough to accomo
date a multitude. A good band has
been engaged aud it will not be stingy
With its music. The Building associa
tion now ha it fine new opera house
completed and everything is ready for
the grandest ball ever given in lhi
country, Tho committee on sports
and amusement hus prepared and an
nounced an elaborate and intereting
programme; a beautiful Liberty car,
gorgeously decorated and bearing the
grandest aggregation of female loveli
ness which Columbia county ever pro
duced, will be an attractive feature of
the parade, in fact, nothing remains
undone to make tbe celebration a most
gratifying success, and if Mr. Jupiter
T'luvius can only be prevailed upon to
celebrate in China or at the world's
fair, we are ure to have a celebration
long to be remembered by all who are
so fortunate as to be present and oni
which will be a lasting credit to our
selves. rCHSOniAL MKttTIOSf
