ed to watch said bridge, and if in hie
opinion the same becomes unsafe for
travel, that he post notices thereon
stopping travel, and that he close up
said bridge by fencing across both ap
proaches thereto and tbat he report
the same to this court.
Matter of allowance to family of
W. McKay, Indian paupers. On this
day it is ordered that the family of
Wm, McKay, an Indian pauper, be
allowed $3 per week in groceries, etc,
from this date until further orders of
this court, the same to be furnished
by Muckle Brothers.
Mattor of bills allowed. On this day
the bill of S. B. Hiigoy, heretofore
laid over, came on to bo heard, and
the court at this time being sufficient
ly advised, it is ordered that the further
sum of $18 be allowed as per bill for
road work in road district No. 6, and
that the clerk draw an a warrant for
the same. '
Matter of bill of damages presented
by 8. R. Hagey. On this day this
matter came on for further hearing,
and the court being fully advised at
this time, it is therefore ordered that
the further sum of $75 be allowed in
futl payment of all damages sustained
by 8. K. Hagcy by reason of injury to
a mare of claimant, and that the clerk
of this court draw a warrant in favor
of said Hagey for the amount on the
county treasurer of Columbia county,
Oregon.
Matter of James Moore, a county
charge. On this day it is ordered by
the court that no further assistance-or
supplios be allowed James Moore, here
tofore a county charge, and tbat the
clerk of this court notify said1 Moore
of this order, and that he notify John
Dolan that the county will not be re
sponsible for any further assistance
rendered said Moore, or for his board
and lodging.

Matter of appointment of road su
pervisors. On this day this matter

Train Wrecked.
Lait Sunday, while s wood train on the
Portland it Willamette Valley (narrow
gauge) was speeding up the line from Port
land, it ran into a tree which had fallen
across the track, derailing tbe entire train,
killing tbe fireman, John Hohenleitner,
and a laborer named Prascallcr. The train
coiited of engine, several flat cars aud
caboose. In the latter there were 17 men.
mostly laborer, and all save one was in
Jure J. The entire train jumped the track
and went into the ditch below, a distance
of 25 feet. The engine and cars were com
pletcly demolished. The Injured were at
once taken to their homes In Portland, ex
cept thoie who bad no homes, who were
taken to tbe city hospital, where two have
since died from their injuries,
