The timber bind act was passed In 1878,

People located homesteads on the Lind. h

Judge Uanford finully decided that land
heavily covered with timber was t mber

missioner t arter has held tbe same view.
While there may in some instances have
been collu-ion between the party taking up
a timber claim au I the nun who bought it
from him, tlier is no doubt tbat the land
thus taken was timber laud, and tbat tbe
man wlio made tlie fraudulent entry tnd

swearing that U was agricultural land, and
that be intended to make a farm of it,
whin he knew it would cost him f 100 tier

it is probable tbat tbe decision of the
supreme couit will pdtanend to the claims
if the fellows who bave located home tends
on lands which bad been taken up and paid

I twill be teen that Messrs. Watt and
Wstktns ware each voted for lor two differ
ent oflices, once for president of thecoiinuil,
and once for councilman. This was because
tliere were two tickets in the field and their
names were transposed on the different
ticket. Aside from these two name, tbe
only difference in the ticket were the names
of A. J. Hubert and D. A. Miles, which were
substituted on the citizens' ticket in pi ice
of J antes Dart and J acob George. Tbe men
who were elected are good energetic repre

hop men ate bniiiy engaged in work
ing their yard preparing for the com

creaa-'d in most of the counties.
The weather hat not been favorable
to the lambing season, though the
losses are mnvb lest than usual.
Warmth and sunshine during the
coming week will materially benefit
all crops and products. -
EASTER OREOO.
Weather Geueral rains have pre
vailed thtongh the week, preceded on
Sunday, March 27th, by a geueral
snow storm througliont the entire sec
tion, being heaviest along tbe Blue
mountains; at Cove, Union county,
snow fell to a depth of one foot ; in
Grunt county, from 10 to 16 inches
ft 11. General frost have prevailed, ex
cept in the more sheltered placet. Tbe
amount of sunshine has been below
the average.
Crops The weather has been un
favorable to the growth of all vegeta
tion, though no damage bis been done
save in a very few exposed pLiees: the
frost of March 27th, 28tli and 29 h
oipped the more advanced and tender
vegetation.
Plowing and seeding are nearly done
and the acreage is somewhat larger
than last year. Tlie soil is in first
class condition, the wheat has a good
stand and tbe prospects are excellent
Peaches, apricot, almond and
apple are in full bloom, except in the
interior; tbe fruit prospect are, so far,
very good.
Sheep shearing is being pushed, in
tome sections it bus been finished ; an
extra good clip and staple have been
secured. The weather is too eold for
the newly sheared sheep. Lambing is
now in progress.
The general prospects for cereals,
frail and stock are very good, much
better than usual at this period of tbe
year. B. 8. Paovb,

profits on their respective routes.
