For years she has served nobly and unselfishly At uonie ana abroad sho has mln lstorad lnvlnsW nAtlantlv ,nH .mi pathetically to the sick and wounded. Th call ot distress she has always heard and answered. She knows no class or creed; the rich and the poor are on the same footing tor her mis sion Is to serve mankind, alleviate suffering and bring cheer to the cheerless. Site is the mother of the world The Red Cross. Will we for get her? We are prone to forget. When lor lnc Tlnffflnt o.ra atllliwl hnw annn sometimes, do we forget those who served us well, it seems only a few days ago when we were praising God for the Red Cross. Mothers and rattiers who bad sons overseas and in the cantonments here knew the Red Cross was there and everywhere and if, perchance, the Bon was wound ed or sick, or if in battle he had made the BACrtflpA fhnv knAV Ihn Boil Cross mother was with the son; there to oomrort and aid. During the war the service ot this great and merciful organization gain ed recognition from all. The war is now over, the work of the empires is over, but not so with the Red iross, lor tneir work continues and this work will continue so long as , mere is a service or mercy to be per formed. The annual roll call Is now being held. Contributions of one dollar and upward are asked. The work of mercy must be continued. Columbia county has never failed to answer i patriotic call; It will not do so now A dollar means Httln tn nut aggregate dollars mean much to the jiou iross. u win enable them to carry on the work and their work 1 necessary. The bible says "The Lord loves a cheerful giver" and we believe the nea iross woum say "we love- a vol unteer contributor." Rnlicitnr. uh, call on you, but would you not feet more lixe a real human when he called If you could show him yout subscription badge as a voluntary coniriDuiorT Don't have to be solicited; grab your check book and write In the amount you want to give for the work you so snoniy ago advocated. You needn't confine yourself to II; con tribute as your conscience dictates. The Red Cross doesn't forget. We must not forget. William Russell in county chair man for Columbia county, Ed. During the past sixty days Traffic Officer Welgle has brought In a number o speed lends. They have been fined and allowed to go on their way. Some of them, possibly, were taught a lesson. We hope so. The speed cop was not hired to return a profit to the county; he was hired to enforce tha o.lfv mil n.t. i. . . . J i.m lawn. Welgle has done this. The laws are for the protection of the public and such laws should be enforced.
