The farmers have nearly finished
their spring work and a large acre
age has been planted. Grain crops
are in fine shape but root crops arc
very late.
CHAPMAN
The dances at the Grange hall
which are held Saturday nights prove
to be social events and are enjoyed
by all who attend.
The rain which fell Sunday night
was welcomed by the farmers in this
vicinity and did much good.
The Chapman school has closed
a very successful term. It Is under
stood that plans are being made to
enlarge the school before the next
term ana employ an additional
teacher in order to accomodate the
50 or more pupils who attend the
school.
L. R.Frink. our capable road super
visor is making needed improve
ments on the Spitzenberg-C'hapman
road, widening the fills and lower
ing the grades. Mr. Frink under
stands how to do road work and gets
the best of results.
Representative E. I. Ballagh was
a visitor in our community Monday
meeting numerous voters who ap
pear satisfied with his services in
the legislature and propose to re
turn him to serve another term.

School closed a very successful
term Friday. All t lie grades passed,
and the directors and patrons ot the
scnool were so pleased with tho work
of the teachers Miss Cathrine Pooling
and Miss Mattle Lee Case that they
have engaged them for next term.
Ily securing a number of cars for
loading, tho Tide Creek Lumber
company has been able to keep run
ning, though not to full capacity.
The mill cuts 50,000 feet per day
and the product is shipped to coas'
and eastern points. Quite a number
of men are employed in tho mill
which is a valuablo r.sset to the com
munity. A number of friends tendered Mrs

Superintendent Mike Kaufman of
the Deer Island Logging company is

Auburn Beauty Six after having had
the car in a Portia id shop for some
days, occasioned bv the pit
in contact with a telephone pole.
F. Lengacher went to Ilillsboro
Tuesday and brought back a new
Auburn car which he has alreadv
sold.
Mrs. Frank Daley will soon leave
for Walla Walla, Washington, t.
