FARMERS TO CROW , CERTIFIED SEED One of the projects that will be conducted through the County Ag ent's office this your will be the pro duction of certified seed potatoes There Is always a good demand at high prices for potato seed that car ry a guarantee of variety and quality. Certlflod ccod potatoes undergo two Inspections In the field and one In spection In the bin. The grower la then enabled to sell his seed with a guarantoo that they are true to va rlety and free from disease. The Inaperttons are made by a specialist from the Agricultural College and the seed Is grown under his super vision. It Is very hard to grow disease free potatoes In the older agricul tural district of the state for tho dlaeaae are already established In the soils. Columbia county has consid erable areas of new land coming un der cultivation each year and IiiIh land is ideally suited to growing fine seed potatoes. With reasonable care the common itato aliments can be kept out ot the soli, and full advantage taken of this profitable line of potato culture. Mr. Frltx Anliker o( Ooblo, and Mr. Taylor of Houlton were the first to signify their Intention of taking up this work. COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS St. Hclons, Orogon, February 16. 1920.
