A LOSS TO THE COUNTY
When TV 17 Hnno.j n i
rlcultural Agent gives up his work as
county agent and leaves the com
munity, tne entire county suffers a
loss. Without exaggeration, it can
be truthfully said that D. C. How
ard has done much for the develop
ment of the county. When he first
came to the county to begin his work
as county agriculturist, there were
many of the dubious fraternity.
Howard did not argue with them
He went at his work nnd soon the
doubting ones were convinced that
me county agent was here to help,
and willing to help and could help
The past few years has shown a re
markable development in the coun
ty's farming and dairying Industry
land much of the development can be
directly traced to Mr. Howard.
The Mist regrets that he Is to
leave the county, but realizes that he
has done a wonderful work and giv
en faithful service in the dlsch-ree of
his official work. The entire com
county is a loser on saccount of his
leaving for other fields of activity.
MAYOR BAKER
Looks as though Mayer Baker was
playing politics when he refused to
introduce Senator Johnson. The
mayor gave as bis excuse for not in
troducing the senator that he wasnot
in accord with the senator's views on
the League of Nitiens. There are
many who think that Mayor Baker is
making plans for further political ad
vancement and thinking that the
League of Nations is very popular
chose not to get into entangling em
barrassments. The mayor should
;-hare remembered, however, that he
as chief executive of the City of Port
land, had a duty and that duty was to
great, in' the name of the city, the
distinguished guest, even if the
broad forehead and big head of the
mayor did not have ideas Identical
with those of Senator Johnson, and
he should remember 'that every one
oven senator Johnson, had a right
au opinion airrerent from
". ii. appears that the mayor can
not get this through his cranium
recent action.' - '
