ST. HELENS MIST. FRIDAY. AUGUST 15, 1919 8 POINTERS FOR POULTRY RAISERS Keep standard bred poultry. It Is more profitable. Don't let roosters run with the hens after the breeding season la over. The bens will lay just as Well and the eggs will be infertile tend will keep better. Hatch early. Early hatched chicks live better, grow better, and the pullets make fall and winter layers. If you have hr.d llttlo or no ex perience in poultry keeping, start in a small wr.y. Then Increase as your experience and success warrant. Build substantial, comfortable poultry houses, but make them as in expensive as possible. Be sure th6 poultry house is dry and free from drafts, but provide plenty of rentilatioa, especially In summer. Keep the house and yard cler.n, Provide rooots and dropping boards. Provide a nest for each four or five hens. Gather eggs dally: market at least twice a week. Grow green crops In the poultry yards If they are not in permanent sod. Feed table and kitchen wrste to the hens. Give a light !eei of grain in the morning. Let the hens help themselves to a dry mash. Give a heavier feed of grain in the evening. Feed grain in straw or other lit ter to make the hens scratch tor it. Keep poultry free from lice and the house free from mites. Market hens which you do not wish to carry longer as soon as they stop laying and begin to molt in the late summer or fall. Cull the flock so as to eliminate the early molters and other unpro fitable producers. Be sure that growing chicks have plenty of feed so that they will make continuous rapid growth. Feed growing chicks a dry mash to which they can help themselves. THERE IS PEACE, BUT PLENTY OF WAR, TOO The signing of the treaty between Germany and the Allied and associ ated powers has brought peace to only one part of the world. Here are some of the conflicts still in progress: The Poles are fighting the Rus sian bolsheviki. The Ukrainians also are at war with the bolsheviki. - The Germans are fighting tht? ' Lithuanians who themselves are at war with the bolsheviki. The Finns are fighting the bol Bhevikl. Civil war continues in Russia, where the bolsheviki are hard press ed by their Russian enemies on sev eral fronts. The Hungarian communists are fighting the Czecho-Slovaks and the Rumanians. The seizure of Smyrna by the Al lies has led to fighting between the Turks and the Greek forces of occu pation. On the northwestern frontier or India the Afgans are fighting the British. China is again in the tboes of a civil war. , Carranza is fighting Villa and other rebel leaders for the control of Mexico. In Costa Rica the Tlnoco govern ment nas criven the rebels over the border into Nicaragua and the latter country fearing an Invasion has ap pealed to the United States for protection. When you have a bilious attack BOIUNG POINT TEST TELLS TRUE VALUES The old gravity test for gasoline really tells nothing of its efficiencv because gasolines of the same gravity may differ in boiling points, and boiling points are the only true measure or gasoline value. By mix ing two gasolines ot high gravity and low gravity, a combination can be obtained which will meet whatever gravity test is desired, but such fuel would not work efficiently In an automobile engine. When, however, the boiling point test is used, the refiner can be sure of maintaining the quality of his product and the motorist can be sure of a uniform gasoline. Every gasoline ror good service, must possess ai gradually rising series of boiling! points. Low boiling points are ab solutely essential for starting but are useless for high power. High boiling points give power, but no motor would start if only the high boiling points were used. The full chain of boiling polDts must be pre sented. Only straight-distilled gasoline has the necessary boiling points. Red Crown is a well-known gasoline which possesses the full and continu ous chain necessary for easy starting and full power. ,' your liver fails to perform its func tions. You become constipated.
