ST., HELENS MIST. FRIDAY. NOVEMBER 29, 1918 4 rnvDrcDAvncHrr S WARREN It all the farmers of the country take the same stand as is the un animous opinion of the Warren ranchers, the rural telephone will be a thing of the past insofar as the Bell Telephone company Is concerned. The action of A. S. Burlesci la rais ing the rates to farmers from one to three dollars per month has ccused a protest such as never has been seen here and the unqualified stand is tc refuse to pry the raise, but to tender the amount paid in the past. If this does not stand the company will be requested tc remove their phones and a co-oper.Vtive line v.-ill. be built, giving service better than that now given and at a less cost. Already ac tion is being taker, towards that en a end the people are unanimous for united action. Why the farmer is selected to pay the price by Post master Burlesoa is what the fr.rmer cannot understand. He has been made the "goat" in ninny Instances during the war. His help taken from him, the demands on hira for all charita ble works, the 100 per cent freight increase on his feed for his stock, and now the advance of 200 per cent on his telephone bill, an industry which he-has done so much toward the building up, is giving his pa triotism a severe strain. Were other industries dealt with on the same ratio he would not murmur, but hu feels he is getting the worst of it ah, and is compelled to bear the brum with so little help from the "upper ups." No action will be taken until collection of tolls will be enforced and then "fire will fly." Mrs. Neer of Goble, mother of Mrs. John Farr, has been helping her for the last week, during the sickness and convalescence of her children, Leo, Laura and John, Jr. School will re-convene on Monday, December 2, as the ravages of the "flu" have nearly disappeared.
