turn to go slow or bonk. The night! of the fourth day found us in camp near Redding. This section is a fine farming country which is used in raising grain and fruit, almonds, olives and oranges. Chico produces 90 per cent of the almonds raised in the United States. From Chico to Fresno the roads are pared and the sped limit is 30 miles per hour. The country here is mostly devoted to raising alfalfa, grapes, peaches and melons. We visited Vosemite valley and went through O'Xelas and Coura Gold, where we paid 40 cents per gallon for oil. At Tosemite Park we visited the Mariposa grove, where the big redwood trees are wonders. The Grizzly Giant is 31 feet in di ameter and 100 feet to the first limb. After leaving here we arrived at the first ranger's station, where we had to pay $2.50 for the toll and had to secure a permit to take our dog into the park. This was at Wa wona. We journeyed to another range station where we were relieved of our guns, which we did not see again until we. reached Chico. At this station we had to pay a fee of $5 to enter the park. The next stop was made at the ranger's station hav ing charge of the Yosemite valley. Here we had to wait until 5 o'clock p. m., as cars can only enter the val ley at odd hours and coma out on the even. This is done so no one will be met on the steep grades. No motorcycle is allowed in the park. Prom Glazier Point could be seen many snow covered fields which the sun failed to strike; also Yosemite falls, which are the highest falls in the world, the first drop being 1,430 feet. Glazier Point is 7,214 feet above the floor of the valley. Chico was named after the Chinese who in the carl days discovered gold, this being one of the first places wiic-i'3 gold was discovered in Cali fornia. All the grain harvesting was done by combined harvesters, tome ULing 20 mules and others using trac tion engines. On our return wo camped at Ash land. The auto camp here is con sidered tiie best in the state. The grounds aro lighted by electricity, water is piped to all parts of the grounds, there Is gas to cook with and a fine free kitchen. We made this trip on one of those peuky Fords. Near Warren, on our way home Sunday afternoon, we had our fimt blowout. We did not change tires on the entire trip, and had only one small puncture. We did not stop once for engine trouble, nor did we change a spark plug. We enjoyed the entire trip, but were glad to get bai k to Oregon.
