A Kew l'eraonulN
For the benefit of those residents
who have come here during the lust
year, we wish to state that both Joe
Day and L. G. Koss weut to the open
ing game Wednesday. This will not
be news to the old timers, because
they all know both ofllces of these
well known professional men are
closed every time Portland opens the
season on her home lot. Of course
we would expect to find the doctor at
some Portland hospital and Joe Day
arguing a case in one of the Multno
mah courts, at least that is the im
pression they try to leave here.
During the excitiug ninth Sunday,
when St. Helens had two men ou the
bases and a god chance to tie up the
score, Harry Bennett became so ex
cited that he stood up and begun
making motions like he was stropp
ing a razor when he Is excited, but
Harry is as a usual thing not of an
excitable nature.
Rees Hall attended the Grocers'
convention at the Vaughn street
grounds Wednesday.
Harry Bennett Is much enthused
as to the prospects he hns for mak
ing a fortune in the mushroom busi
ness. He has already plunted two
beds and expects to have mushrooms
within the next forty days. It seems
to us that instead of the mushroom
crop, most any other barber would
be more interested in the mo-lialr
crop. i
Councilman Ballagh wentt to I'ort-(
land Weduesday to get prices and
samples of hose for the local fire de
partment. Not being used to driving
his car in the crowded streets of the
big city, he left it at the baseball
park and walked up the stairway to
the grand stand.
