to this city a couple of days this

birthday.
Mrs. James Broder (Ruth Decker)
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L.
Decker, died Wednesday at lwr home
in Portland.
Miss Elsie Philip spent the week
end at the home of her father, Mr.
John Philip. Miss Philip is teaching
in Scappoose.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Blakesley re
turned this week from Portland
where they have been for the past
three months.
Ben Doris of Eugene, lies accepted
a position over in the St. Helens
shipyard and will make St. Helens
his future home.
Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Miller visited
friends over in Winlock, Wash. They
were the guests of T. T. Roundtree
Mr. Miller's Bister.
Lincoln Peterson of Mist, returned
home Monday after spending several
days as the guest of Mra. Elmore
Blackburn and sister.

Joseph Trocha died in a hospital
in Portland after a short illness. He
was afflicted with Bright's disease
He was better known here as "Joe
the baker," and was in the employ ol
the St. Helens bakery.
C. S. Rhul of this city, was taken
to the hospital last Saturday. Mr.
Rhul is suffering from a stroke oi
apoplexy. He was slightly Improved
at this writing.
Joseph Trocha of this city, died In
the county hospital Tuesday the 18th
Mr. Trocha was employed in the St
Helens bakery up till the time of hi
last illness. He leaves a widow and
four children.
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. John entertain
ed with a dinner party at their home
Tuesday evening in honor of Mr. aud
Mrs. A. F. Barnett. Covers were
laid for six.
The members of the Guild gave a
tea In honor of Mrs. W. It. Lidyard
who has recently moved here from
Eugene. Mrs. Jacob Georgo served
and was assisted by Mrs. E. A. Rot
ge?.
Circuit court adjourned last Frl
day until the 31st, at which time we
learn the grand jury will be recalled
The trial jury has been excused until
the first Monday in March.
The boys are still on the job secur
ng names for the organization of a
military company at this place. Over
60 signers have been secured. The
committee in charge, in soliciting
names, consider quality before quantity.
The Antler saloon building owned
by Mr. Brinn, is being remodeled
and repaired for a business house.
It has been rented by Talbert &
Thatcher, of the Club cigar store,
who will occupy the new location as
soon as It is made ready.
The Columbia County Pomona
Grange will meet at Warren the first
Saturday in February (Feb. 5).
Speakers from O. A. C. and county
court expected to bo present. A large
attendance particularly desired. All

Manager Zipperer Informs this office
that he has orders for eleven new
phones and has been greatly delayed
in their installation.
