Helens, did not appear In tho list of unorganized iiiImhIoiis of the DIocoho until the year 1900, and became an organized mis sion In 1912. In the year 1907, Mrs Hell Sell wood Interested the Sunday schools of the Diocese In raising money for a bell for the mission, and turned over $32. Then Mr. James Muckle canio forward with the goner oils gift of tho balance necessary, and a bell weighing 800 pounds and cost lug $100, was purchased. The I .nil lea' Guild hud raised mon ey for a tower, which was erected the same year. It Is a deep-toned bell and is great ly appreciated by tho people. Now, Christ Church Mission pos sesses a flue piece of property, the envy of the town. Ten thousand limes we say, "what would the church do wlthoht the women?" but In St. Helens the men are also good backers. Our property Is now worth $xooo. As the mission has grown materi ally, so there has been a spiritual growth. The Journal for 1907 re ported six communicants and only four of these active. This year we report 32 resident communicants and last Kaster every one wag present and recolved. There are 22 members In the Guild. Mrs. M. E. Then tho Ladles' Guild raised the money for a cement walk in front ol ll,o church. In 1910, Mr. Charlei Mucklo promised the LadleB' Guild tho money for the building of a Guild hull, und at tho Biime time the Guild rulsed $300 for a recess chancel to ho added to the church, and the hall and church were directly connected by passiigeways on both sides of the cluincel. This very gonerous gift on the part of Mr. Muckle enabled the ladles to build a very neat, one-Btory Guild hall, coRtlng about $1250. Tho hall has been a great help and the ladles have made excellent use of It. Many kind frlonds came forward and furnished the hall with tables, chairs, chlnaware, silverware, and a kitchen range. So the ladles Installed You buvo no doubt read the verses about Michigan, and I will own Ihut they wero great; Hut I am about to composo some all about a greater state. I have traveled some since I left the East; some country did I see; Hut of all tho places on the map, it's Oregon for me. You may get aboard the train, and whichever way you ride, Vou cun see greut cities built on the mountain side. Vou bear the frogs In winter singing and you see the butterfly, You never see this In the East, and you know the reason why. We have all kinds of fruit and our rivers teem with flsh. We have fresh salmon by the ton; It makes a very fine dish. You may travel, yes. You may go from conBt to coast. Hut of all tho climates In the end of Oregon you will hoaBt. It Is not cold In the winter and In the summer It Is fine; For we ulways have a lovely breeze off from the ocean's brine. We have berries here in June and we have them in November; I never saw this In Michigan, as I can remember. There Is no great amount of wages, that is paid In Oregon for rent, For the climate Is so very mild that you can live out In a tent. You can see the evrrgreens where- cver you may go, And all winter In the valleys, they never have snow. There Is some beautiful scenery; you have tead of them In the book. They are the beautiful mountains and on them you may look. I looked out In the morning, and far away It stood, That beautiful mountain, the one they call Mount Hood. Thero Is another beautiful sight, and It Is when the sky Is clear, You can see, though several miles away, the one they call Rainier. So, of all the climates that I ever did spun, I think there Is Just one that beats Old Michigan. Composed by Hiram Mercer.
