Wellington Miss Lulu George, Miss Fleek and Percy George spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. George. Mrs. Jacob George, Mrs. M. E. Mil ler, Miss Amy George and Clias Muckle motored to Portland Wed nesday. H. J. Southard returned Sunday from a business trip to Portland and Oregon City. At the latter place he met friends he had not seen for seventeen years. Mrs. Hanna Partrich, mother of Mrs. Wm. Ross, arrived last Thurs day to spend the winter at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ross. Mrs. Frank Hiley returned from Portland this week, where she has been attending the bedside of her daughter, who underwent an opera tion at Good Samaritan hospital. Wellborn Bros., late of Texas, are opening up an ice cream parlor and candy kitchen in the Ramsey build ing. They have a fine lot of fixtures. Mr. Torango of Portland, set up the fixtures. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Grimes, Mrs. Thos. Cox of Wisconsin, who have been visiting the Ross family for the past three weeks, resumed their Jour noy to San Francisco fair. Mrs. Alma Heilburn, mother of Mrs. S. C. Morton and Miss Heilburn, fell Sunday morning at her, home and received a fractured wrist and a severe cut on her head. At this writing, Mrs. Heilburn was getting along nicely. Harold Ro3s, Lester Wellington and Steele Moorhead will leave today for Eugene to witness the great an nual event of the championship game of football between the University of Oregon and the State Agricultural college. Our loose change is up on Oregon. S. N. Cade, proprietor of the Lone Fir dairy, ha3 absorbed the St. Hel ens dairy, and the dairy will here after be known as St. Helens dairy. Mr. Cade has also purchased the milk routes of J. M. Burkhead. He wishes to thank all for their patron age and hopes to bo worthy of their continued support. ' U. S. Dspain has opened up a gar age and repair shop in the building formerly occupied by the Independ ent Auto Co. His place will be named the St. Helens Garage. Hie machinists are Terry & Moultrop. He would like a portion of the pub lic patronage. Her many friends in this city will be grieved to know that Mrs. Chas. Heilborn, mother of Mrs. S. C. Mor ton, met with a very painful accident Sunday morning, when in ascending the stairway at the Morton home, she lost her balance and fell down the flight of stairs, spraining her ankle and breaking her left arm, also in flicting several scalp wounds. It Is gratifying to know that she is getting along very well at this writing and her friends hope for her speedy recovery. HIGH SCHOOL NOTES. The S. H. H. S. is now practicing on a minstrel show, which, by the looks of things, will sure be worth the money. Mr. McCoy is directing the boys and intends to have them ready tor the stage about Dec. 17 He has a number of coons and funnj men along with several other num bers. The S. H. H, S. are hoping that the town people will show their patriotism to the school by turning out and we are sure we will give you your money's worth. Dr. Roney, president of Wlllam ette University, gave the pupils of the S. H. 11. S. a very interesting talk on the advantage of a good education Monday morning, his motto being 'Stick to the bitter end." Mr. Sten, the basket ball couch, is sure giving the boys good training The boys are nil looking forward to the trimming they will give Clats- kanio, which is their first game. Algebra two class is now laboring with graphs, but if they keep up their faithful work they will all pull out all right. English one class had an evening sossion with Miss Duns Wednesday evening. Oh, well, as they are fresh men, we will not blame them. Grammar Grade News. The seventh and eighth grades were invited into the High School Monday morning to Jiear Dr. Doney; president of Willamette University, speak. We enjoyed it very much. Being near the end of the mouth the seventh and eighth grades have been enjoying tests. The eighth grade is beginning to appreciate civil government very much. The seventh grade is developing a sleight of hand performer. CHURCHES. NOTICE. A new time table went Into effect Sunday, and Portland visitors are liable to be left if not informed of the changes. Train No. 23 from Astoria at 8 a. m., 12 minutes earlier. The Rainier local will leave Portland at 12:25 p. m., 25 minutes earlier. The Rainier local will leave Portland at 5:35 p. m., 25 minutes earlier. The through train will leave Portland at 6:15, arriving at Houlton at 7:06. This train will now stop at this sta tion, giving additional time to Port land visitors. Mrs. Harlow Anderson entertained the ladles of the Methodist Aid so ciety at an all-day meeting at her home Friday. A feature much ap preciated by the fifty persons present was n delicious roast duck dinner, the proceeds of which she donated to the society.
