Allen, who will leave Fri day for her new home In Spokane. Mrs. White and daughter, Miss Myrtle White of Des Moines, Iowa, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Quick. Mrs. White Is the mother of H. W. White, formerly of this place, but now of Portland. J. P. Nordln of Lenls, has opened a Jewelry store In the room formerly occupied by the Pure Food Bakery. He has a fine line of goods and makes a specialty of repairing. He has a family and expects to locate here permanently. Captain Allston Flagg of the Brit ish army, was killed during the recent big drive of the allies to the German armies off the French coast. Captain Flagg was a nephew of E. H. Flagg, editor of the Warrenton News, and a former resident of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Martin White return ed Tuesday from a visit with relatives In North Yamhill. They were sent for on account of the serious illness of Mr. White's aunt, Mrs. E. S. Mor ris, whose age approaches the cen tury mile stone. She will be 94 next month. She had greatly Improved when they left and hopes are enter tained that she will reach 100 years. The city of Ontario in Eastern Ore gon, is in a box. The revenue de rived from saloon licenses amounts to $8000 per annum and with Janu ary 1st, prohibition takes effect, the revenue of the city will be reduced that amount. Under the new law passed by the last legislature, provid ing that no city shall by direct tax make a levy which will raise taxes s over six per cent of the total amount received by taxation the previous year. The wisdom of the new law is questionable. The farewell reception given fo: Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Allen, who leave Friday for Spokane, at the M. E. church Tuesday evening, was one of the most successful events of the season. Mrs. L. L. Baker gave a reading, Joseph McCoy rendered a vocal selection and La Dare's orches tra gave two or three selections dur ing the evening. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served later on in the evening. Mrs. A. J. Demlng was a hostess Friday afternoon in honor of Mrs. J. W. Allen, who leaves Friday to make her home in Spokane.
