This wo will point out In a future urtlclo. Alao, the cost of production Is turgor hero under tho roHirl-il..n mposed by state laws. All these restriction liave an excellent In tent, but many of them full to uchlnvo their Intent while at the sumo time they damage the Indus try. A tendoncy to tax timber for Im provement which are not necessities Is making tho burden too heavy to curry except for a few wealthy In terests, whoso resources enable them to oulllvo prolonged depressions which ruin their competitors. TIiobo who uivo made a study claim that the same purumount object of "safety first" cun be achieved at lesB cost for many public woiks by using wood. With tho welfare of a great In dustry at stuke, is It not worth while to leurn whether these men are rlghtT Other industries here In the Pa cific Northwest will not attain their doserved measure of DroBnorltv If umber fulls to revive. More brick will bo Bold when lumber mon are prosperous than when they are un employed. More cement will be sold when lumber mills are running than wh.-n they are rusting. More steel will bo In demand when more lum ber is in demand. Mercantile busi ness, wholesale und retail, will reap moro pro lit from revival of lumber llian from reductions of freight rates, ninny times over. More farm produce will bo eold, and at higher prices, if lumber camps are active. Wo are all vitally concerned with protecting the lunibor Industry from further dumngo, and we will all profit by rescuing It from utter ruin. Oregon Voter. BRIDGES COMPLETED. W. M.
