of the weather the luncheon was

lowed. A number of parents were
present to partake with the children
of the delicious picnic lunch.
The pupils of the eighth grade In
the lloulton school were specially In
vited by Prof. Ilaker of Bt. Helens, to
participate In tho graduating exer
cises at that pluce last Friday even
lug In tho auditorium of the school,
receiving their diplomas with the
eighth grade pupils of the St. Helens
school. Those who finished the
eighth grade work were Hose Klblim,
Juanlta Moffott, Uly Harnos and
Harold Decker. This comnrlsed tlm

laat term, and they were acquitted
with honors.
Miss Hath Perry very charmingly
entortalnod the pupils of her Sun
day school class Kuturday evening at
her home near lloulton, the Inspira
tion for the occasion being the de
parture of Lois and Annotte Payne
on tho following Monday for North
Carolina. Only the girls of MIbs
Perry's class were present, and a very
pleasant evening was Bpont at games.
Delicious refreshments, consisting of
home-made Ice cream and assorted
cakes, were served by the hostess.

and Worren had an Interesting game
here lust Sunday afternoon. The
game was won by the Scappoose

Prof. Dunton entertained the pu
pils of his room by taking them for
a launch ride and picnic to Rldge
fleld, Wash. A good time was re
ported. Groduotlon exercises were held at
Erlckson's hall last Friday evening.
A class of nine graduates received
their Btate diplomas. The hall was
appropriately decorated In the class
colors. It was well attended.

Gustave Schneller, who with his
wife, resided two miles west of Scap
poose, died of paralysis at his home
Friday and was burled In Fair View
cemetery Sunday. He leaves a wife
and two grown sons. I
A government surveying party is
located at Scappoose, making a topo
graphic quadrangle, including all the
territory lying between Scappoose,
HUlsboro and Portland, and In case
of Jupunese invasion Uncle Sam will
know where all the safe places to
hide are located.
The May Day festivities at the
school came off creditably on the af
ternoon ot the 16th, on the school
campus. Miss Ardath Hagey, a senior,
was May Queen, assisted by Misses
Helen Watts and Loolle Blatchford,
and various court attaches, with Val
des White as bishop. Many out-door
stunts were enacted, all of which re
flected credit on teachers and pupils.
Abel Joubert, who has a large
country home on South Scappoose
creek, was badly Injured Monday
morning while driving to town. A
broken wheel caused his team to run,
throwing Mr. Joubert heavily to the
ground, where he was found uncon
scious and brought to Dr. Hatfield by
Rupert Tetz. The injured man was
taken to a Portland hospital by am
bulance, where at latest reports he
was out ot danger.

Caanan school, and her pupils gave
a picnic on Tide creek last Sunday
In honor of the end of the school
term. The whole countryside for
miles around turned out and enjoyed
the occasion. Ice cream, cake and
sandwiches were served. We all feel
very sorry to hear that Miss Hamlll
will not teach at Caanan next year
and wish her success wherever she
goes.

A rousing game of baseball was
played at Goble last Sunday between
the Goble Athletes and a team from
Kalaina. The Goble team has played
six games this season, being defeated
last Sunday for the first time. It re
quired ten innings to declda the
game, the score being five to four In
favor of the visitors. The game was
umpired by Foster.
