Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Younger of Portland, spent last Sunday with Mrs. Younger's parents, Judge and Mrs. James Dart. Mrs. Ray Watts and Mrs. R. Ring of Portland, were in attendance at the Eastern Star meeting here last Saturday evening. Prof. Simms, head of the veterin ary department of the Oregon Agri cultural College, Corvallis, was in St. Helens a day or two this week. Charles H. John left on Wednes day for Ilwaco, Wash., where he has accepted a position as bookkeeper with C. E. Kerlee, a general merch andise dealer. J. G. Watts, Mrs. Bert West and Mrs. Mildred Watts of Scappoose, were among the interested ones at tending the quarterly meeting of the taxpayers' league held in St. Helens Tuesday. L. H. Walker of Goble, section foreman of the S. P. & S., was in the county seat today, attending the in quest over the body of the late John Butterworth, killed at Prescott Wed nesday. I. G. Wilkstrom of Scappoose, was in town Tuesday, paying taxes and attending to other matters. Mr. Wik strom is now operating his sawmill near Scappoose. Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Peyton and daughter, Grace, came down from Portland Saturday to visit with the family of J. L. Chittim and other rel atives over Sunday. Mrs. H. S. McConnell and daugh ter, of Ridgefleld, Wash., accompan ied by J. W. McCullough, visited over Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Anderson, at the Muckle ranch, War ren. The Rev. Frank James of Port land, is In St. Helens today. He will return home, accompanied by his wifo and two little boys, who have been visiting for two weeks at the home of Mrs. James' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. H. Thompson. H. P. Allen of Hood River, was in St. Helens several days this week vis iting his brother, L. E. Allen. Mr. Allen is an enthusiastic orchardist and all round progressive and pros perous citizen. The brothers had not Been each other for nearly 28 years. Charles Muckle and niece, Miss Amy George, returned last Saturday irom a two months' trip to Hawaii and other points of interest. Mr. Muckle returns in a much improved condition of health and states that his recent trip was of much benefit to him in many ways. Their party remained on the islands twenty-eight days, visiting all points of Interest and enjoying the delightful climate. On their return they visited the ex position at San Francisco, which they say Is a Bplendid fair. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Wood of this city, were passengers on the Multno mah when she sailed Wednesday for Southern California, where they will remain about one month, visiting both the California expositions and other points of interest. Mr. and Mrs. Wood are making of this trip their "going away" trip, having been de prived of that happy event upon the occasion of their wedding several months ago. Dr. H. R. Cliff of Portland, was operated upon at Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland, last Saturday, when something In excess of 100 gall stones were removed. The doctor lias been Indisposed for a long time and his legion of friends will be pleased to learn that he Is recover ing from the effects of the operation and the ultimate recovery of his health is now only a question of time. WILL CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY 4 . MR. AND MRS. II. P. WATKINS. Tomorrow, April 3, will occur the fiftieth anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Watklns, of this city. On that even ing Mr. and Mrs. Watklns will be at home to their friends. They were married in Clarke county, Washington, April 3, 1865 and on October 2, 1880, removed to St. Helens, whore they have re sided continuously. Mr. and Mrs. Watklns have occupied an important place in the social and business life of the community during their residence here. They reared to manhood and woman hood two daughters and two sons, the latter being the only ones of their six children living, Fred and Glen Watklns, both of this city Their grandson, Kenneth Pratt, resides with his grandparents Mr. Watklns was born January 25, 1830, and Is therefore in his eightieth year. Mrs. Watklns is his Junior by about fifteen years having been born October 3, 1850. Mr. Watklns has served as Justice of the Peace of this precinct for several years, is at pres ent city treasurer, and has been nominated to succeed himself in that position. of the Sunday school.
