ty Court proceedings.

Judge C. H. Carey of Portland,
one of the most prominent attorneys
of Oregon, was looking after busi
ness matters In St. Helens this week.
Paul Selma and Henry Olson of
Marshland were among the citizens
from that locality attending the
meeting of the County Court, this
week.
Senator W. H. Hollis of Forest
Grove was a business visitor in St.
Helens this week, having come here
to represent F. F. Knight In his
claim for damages In the condemna
tion proceedings. -
Rev. and Mrs. F. J. Meyer were
passengers on the Georglana this
morning for Ilwaco, where Mr. Meyer
will hold services neyt Sunday, ex
changing pulpits with Rev. Barnum
of that city.
Mr. and Mrs. 8. C. Morton with
Mr. and Mrs. W.:W. Blakesley went
to .Portland Monday, where Mr. and
Mrs. Blakesley received their new
191 S Hudson car. Walter took the
wheel on the way down here and
by the time he reached home was
driving the car like a veteran. '.
School starts in St. Helens on the
31st of August.
Dr. and Mrs. Peel motored to
Portland Wednesday.

Miss DeWort and Mrs. Evart of
Portland came down today with Mr
and Mrs. Percy George and will visit
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. H.
George over Sunday.
Miss Blanch Charnley, formerly an
employe of the Mist In this city, came
down from her home In Portland last
Sunday and visited with friends here
for a few days during the week.
Mr. W. R. Hewitt of San Fran
cisco arrived in St. Helens Thurs
day to look after business matters
in connection with the new ship
being constructed at the ship yards
in this city.

ment of a free lecture at the school
house appears In another column,
will probably stay for another day

sendinr ten cents to the Mist. It will
require about two weeks to get them
after the order is received.
The children of the M. E. Sunday
School are holding a picnic at God
frey Park this afternoon. Quite a
large attendance is reported and a
jolly time Is being had.
M. Saxon was down to Cla.'skanie
yesterday and says he feels very
fortunate that he escaped with his
life. He says that some of the peo
ple of that city are so badly worked
up over the recall movement that
they really look with distrust upen
everybody living south of Rainier.
Wilbur Mucke and Glen Watklns
returned yesterday from their trip
of selling horses. They left here
about five months ago with quite a
number of horses and have 'trav
eled through nearly all the Willa
mette Valley counties buying and Bel
ling horses. They went as far south
as Eugene. They report a very suc
cessful trip. '
Mr. E. D. Miller of Evansvllle, Ind
iana, vlsltde St. Helens this week.
Mr. Miller Is a furniture manufactur
er of the east and is looking over the
west with an idea that he would lo
cate if he could find the proper en
couragement. He spent one day
here and said when he left that on his
travels throughout the west he was
more favorably impressed with St.
Helens as an Ideal place for the man
ufacture of furniture than any place
he had visited. He said he would
probably return later.
