Mrs .Minnie Hyde of Clatskanle,
was a visitor in St. Helens last week.
Born, on July 3rd to Mr. and Mrs,
C. E. Stevens, a daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Imus of Kala
ma, Wash., visited with Rev. and
Mrs. Meyer on the Fourth.
Mr. and Mrs. James Muckle spent
the Fourth here with relatives and
friends.
Mr. and Mrs. 0. B. Mllloy of Scap
poose were visitors in St. Helens last
Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy "George of
Portland visited at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. A. H. George over Sunday.
Tom Grant of Scappoose was a
business visitor In St. Helens this
week
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Fiagg of fort-
land took In the celebration at St.
Helens, returning Sunday evening..
Miss Fleek of Portland, visited at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Geo

Mrs. Perry of Portland was the
guest of Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Hazen
during the Fourth of July festivities.
Mr. and- Mrs. Dave Davis of War-
renton, were among the out of town
visitors at St. Helens on the Fourth.
Thomas H. Tongue, a prominent
HUlsboro attorney, was in St. Helens
today on legal business.
J. T. Tabor while busily engaged
in selling confetti on the Fourth had
his pocket picked of several dollars.
Mrs. J. N. Burgess and daughter
Madeline, of Pendleton, are visiting
with Mrs. M. E. Miller in St. Helens
this week.
Mr. and Mrs. John Farr and child
ren, were guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. H. J. Southard during the
Fourth.
Captain Frank Watts of Brook
field, Wash., visited In St. Helens
last week and enjoyed the celebration
here with friends.
Judge T. J. Cleeton came down
from Portland to enjoy the celebra
tion at St. Helens, his old home am.
he had a jolly good time too, he said.
Mr. and Mrs. Welch of Portland
spent the Fourth in St. Helens, the
guests of their daughter Mrs. A. A.
Galichlo.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles English of
Deer Island were among the out of
town visitors In St. Helens on the

Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Watts and Mr.
and Mm. D. W. Price of Scappoose
motored down and spent the Fourth

A. W. Mueller with his family
went to Seaside last week where Mrs.
Mueller and her mother, Mrs. Pen-
dergast, will spend the summer.
Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Pomeroy and
Mr. and Mrs. James Pomeroy were
Scappoose visitors in St. Helens dur
ing the Fourth.
Mrs. L. R. Rutherford and her son
Wade and Raymond, returned last
week from Spokane where they have
been visiting for sveral weeks.
Mrs. Geo. Tlchenor of Portland
was the guest at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. LaBare in St. Helens over the
Fourth.
Mrs. J. H. Price and son Horace
returned last week from San Fran
cisco where they have been for some
time.
The many friends of Clyde Hocdle,
who was injured several months ago
at the log roll way, were pleased to
see him in St. Helens this week,
almost entirely" recovered from his
injuries.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry , Capjes, Mr.
and Mrs. Hugh Caples of Columbia
City and Miss Leva Roberts of Kala
ma, Wash., spent last Sunday vlsla
ing Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Van Natta of
West St. Helens.
Mr. and Mrs. Zipperer returned
Monday from Astoria where they
took in the Regatta and Celebration.
Dr. Zlpperor was one of the 4000 Ad
mirals In Astoria during the festivities.
Just as we go to press the jury in
the case of Nellie Leifferman vs. the
St. Helens Lumber Co., for damages
for the death of Hugh Le'fferman,
returned a verdict in favor of the
plaintiff for $7500.

a vacation down at Uts View and
Bay Ocean View, and Tillamook Hay.

There were many more people in
St. Helens on the third and fourth
whose names we did not get, but
everybody enjoyed it anyway.
Wise and Otherwise
A. S. Harrison was takuu to 0e
hospital in Portland Inst M-ndav
suffering with a break down and
stomach trouble. His physical's
say that a good rest and careful
nursing will soon restore him to l.s
usual good health.
The team of G. M. Brouse did not
lie the music discoursed by the band
on the fourth and didn't like the
looks of the red shirts of the fire
men, so they decided to go home.
One of the bridles fell off and the
t,eara ran through the crowd and out
into Godfrey Park where they, came
to a sudden stop by bumping into a
tree. The wagon was badly damag
ed and the harness torn to bits but
no one was hurt.
On the evening of July 3rd a box
ing exhibition was held in the City
Hall in St. Helens which was most
thoroughly enjoyed by a large crowd.
Yost Schmeer and Dave Whells of
Portland were the principal attrac
tion In a six round bout which went
to a draw. The work of these boys
seemed to please people who were
up on boxing, many complimentary
remarks being made by cr'tics about
the work of the youngsters. Several
other bouts were held.

for a few months until he s able to
get a home for them.
Mrs. Joyce is visiting her parents
at Cathlamet this week.
Mr. I. B. Duncan's house burned
the 4th and almost everything was
lost. Anyone wanting to contribute
will find subscription list at Hobert's
store.
Mat Englert is laid up again with
Rhumatlsm.
Dewey Adams and Phil Clonlnger
are working In the hay field at
Honeyman.
Miss Kelly returned to Seattle last
week.
M. J. Butler spent the 4th with uls
parents at independence, Oregon.

er, but removing numerous large
snags. These are what the fishermen
call "real devils".
One of the star catches of the fish
season was 800 pounds In one day,
Mrs. Morris Kanary of West St.
Helens arose Sunday mornng at 5
o'clock leaving a note covering the
face of her husbands watch, saying
