Miss Elsie Elliott of Santa Anna California is visiting Mrs, Goodman of Batchelor Flat an old friend. Mrs. Miller and children of Kala ma, Wash., visited last week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Chase in St. Helens. Mrs. S. A. Lynge has recovered from an illness which kept her con fined to the house for about two weeks. Charles Muckle returned home this week from a sojourn of a couple of weeks in the Good Samaritan Hospi tal, much improved In health. Mrs. H. J. Southard and Mrs. Jac ob George attended the session of the Grand Chapter O. E. S. at Portland last week as delegates from the lonal lodge. . , Earl Perry, manager of the Weeks Granite Works of Portland, was a business visitor in St. Helens during this week. Mr. H. H. Zipperer of St. Helens has been appointed Admiral Phil Met chan, Jr. as Commander of the Fleet at the Astoria Regatta. Dr. Zipper er will accept the appointment and attend the festivities at Astoria. The St. Helens Water board has decided to hold two meetings each month, the first and third Thursday evenings at the Council Chambers at which time and place citizens are re quested to prsent all kicks and make known their wants. Collins of Rainier Is in St. Helens this week assisting Sup't Wilkerson in the examination of applicants for teacher's certificates, There are 17 applicants for papers taking examination at the Court House. An accident at the Columbia Coun ty Mill yesterday resulted In shut ting the mill down until Monday. A large Iron drift bolt hidden in a log struck the saw stripping all the teeth from the saw and tearing out the low er saw arbor. Fortunately none of the workmen were injured.
