Hue prorlamatinn being made, the following proceedings were had: Journal read, approved and signed: Matter of petition of J W. Thurs tor, et. al. for county road. On this day comes D. B. Stehman, by his attorney, Glcng K. Metsker, and presents to the court his petition and appeal from the report of the Board of County Viewers for failing to assess damage in favor of said O. I!. Steh man on aeccount of tho location of said road as heretofore allowed by the court, and asking that the sum of i 197.. 10, be now allowed as such dam ages, it is therefore ordered by the C( urt that Wednesday, February 4, 1914, at the hour of 1 o'clock p. m. be and the same is hereby fixed as the time fot further conttidration of said petition and appeal. In the matter of the claim of Geo. W. I'erry for indemnity for slaught ered cattle: On ths 7th day of January, 1913, comes on for hearirg the cliam of Geo. W. R. setting forth a detailed state ment of the relief furnished during the preceding year, together with voucher in support thereof, and the court being advised in the matter, it is ordered by the court that said report be, and the same is hereby approved. Matter of report of Henry Terry, a Commander of Tost, No. 25, G. A. R. On this day comes on for hearing the report of Henry Terry, Commander of Shepardstown Tost, No. 25, G. A. R. as to relief furnished during the preceding year, and the court not be ing fully advised in the iratter, it is ordered by the court that said matter be, and the same is hereby continued. Matter of petition for aid for E. Bii'knell. On this day this matter coming on for considration upon the petition of J F . Roth and others, residents of the city of Rainier, together with the cer tificate of R. A. Schmdt attendinp phyxician, and the court being advised in the matter, it is ordered by the court that the clerk be, an he is here by authorized and instructed to issue a general fund warrant in the sum of 20.00 in favor of said E. Bickne t. and a like warrant on the first day of each month hereafter, until the further order of the rourt. Matter of petition of U. F. Hayes for county aid. On this day this matter coming on for conaideartion upon the written pe tition of said K. F. Hayes, and tho j court not being fully advised In the matter, it is ordered by the court that said petition be, and the same is here by continued for further investigation. Matter of resignation of J. B. E. Bourne as Justice of the Peace for Rai nier Precinct. On this 7th day of January 1914, J. B. E. Salmon fishing in the Columbia River is also an important industry. Farming and fruit raising; Stone quarrying; Ship building and all kinds of lumber manufacturing plants. OPPORTUNITIES: There are fine opportunities for the small farmer, dairy, man. fruit grower and truck gardener. Also a number of choice deep water sites for manufacturing plants. On this day it is ordered by the court that th-j amount of the bond of R. S. Hatten as tax collector, be and the same is hereby fixed in the sum ot $10,000.00. Matter of qualification of R. S. Hat tan as tax collector. On this day R. S- Hattan presents to the court his duly executed bond by the American Surety Company of New York, in the sum of $10,000.00, and the court being advised iu the matter, it is ordered by the court that said bond be and the same is hereby ap proved,. Matter of appointment of county road master. On this day it is ordered by the court that Leo G. Titus be, nad he is heiebv appointed road master, in and for Columbia county. Oregon, and that his salary be and the same ia hereby fixed in tbd sum of $175.00 per month, together with his actual traveling ex penses, as evidenced by itemized monthly statements thereof. It is further ordered by the court that the bord of such road msater be, and the same is hereby fixed in the sum of $2, 000. Matter of appointment of count sealer of weights and measures. On this 7th day of January, 1914, it is ordered by the court that Thomas A. Cloninger be, and he is hereby appoint ed county sealer of weights and meas ures. Matter of deed of easement from Norhtern Taeific Railway Co. On this day the Northern Taeific Railway Company presents to the court its duly executed deed of easement, in favor of Columbia county, covering a strip of land in the nw qr f section 21 T. 5 n R. 1 W. of W. M. near Deer land, for change of county road, an the court being advised inthe matter, it is ordered by the court that said deed be, and the same is hereby apporved. and placed on file.
