W. Day over last Sunday. Mrs. Ella Prigs of Spokane, has been visiting friends in this comir un ity for the pastweek. The Scappoose bridge is completed and travel between that place and St. Helens has been resumed. K B. Miigruder of Clattfkanie was a business visitor in St. Helens Thrus day. C. L. Starr, Secretary of the State Tax Commission, wa3 looking over the records at the Court House this week. Attorney J. W.Day has taken offices in the Hunk Building where he will be found hereafter. Fred Adams of Deer Island was a business visitor in St. Helens Tues" day. C,.orce X. Farrin, an attorney of Portland, was looking after business matters in St. Helens Monday. Mr. and Mrs Zipperer spent a few days at Shipperds Springs last week. The many friends of George Lamont will be pleased to learn that he is im proving from his recent severs illness. Mr. and Mrs. I.ouis Fluhrer of Mav ger, were visitors in St.Helens Thurs day. ; Mr. and Mrs. Howard were trans acting business in St. Helens Tues day. Mr. Johnson, trailio manager of the Westeri. Union, was a business visitor in St. Helens this week. W. C. Cooper of Warren was called to Veronia this week on account of the serious illness of his father who resides at ti.at place. The fixtures for the St. Helens post office arrived here this week and are being put in place in the Masonic building where the post office willl be located after next week. Among the Veronia people who were here this week attonding the Adams trial were, R Sesseman, C. W. Mell ingor, Wm I'lack. L. R. Stuart, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Webster and several others whose names we did not learn. There will be a Washinton party held at the Congregational Church in this city on February l!Hh, given by the Congregational Aid . Vincent and Floyd McAboy are spending the week on their ranch on Bunker Hill and Mrs. McAboy is en joying a visit with her friend, Mrs. George Wilson. I When George Wilson, our genial) mail carrier.starteJ on his rounds Mon day he encountered several thousand feet of fir timber in the roads between Trenholm and the Wallace hill and was obliged to turn back and rustle a crew of men and team to remove the trees, three in number, before he could pro ceed on bis route. However the road was cleared in a short time and Mr. Wilson started on his trip before noon. At tne literary meeting Saturday evening a great deal of business was discussed by those present. Whjiithe j attendance was not so large as it was j at the previous meetings, a very enjoy able tmie was had by those who were present. The program consisted chiefly J of musical nnmhers rendered by Mr. j Cropp, and Mesdames Wilson, Church-' ill, Mclntire and Chriftcnsen. Two I new members were added to the list making in all about 70 members. The Sunday School at Trehnolm 14 certainly to be complimented on ac- count, of the regularity in aUendar.ee of its members . In spite of rain and mud last Sunday several came a dis tance of 1 and 1 1-2 miles and since the new quarterlies ani attendance cards have arrived great interest is shown by a'.l in the lessons. All are welcome. Come and bring a friend with you. The annual meeting of the Trenholm Library and Literary Association was held atthe Trenholm school house last Saturday evening, but on account of inclement weather only a sparse nuui her of members attended. However, those loyal members who did attend made up for lack of attendance by transacting a large amount of business. Enthusiasm wa3 the keynote of the even ing and plans were laid for a general j oKpansion of the society's sphere of operations which will embrace more i united efforts towards the social bene- fit of the community and the placing o" j j Trenholm in a more conspicuous light j i in the general affairs of the state. The j I meeting adjourned till next Saturday 1 night when officers for the ensuing year will be elected.
