There is table of figures
printed in this issue w herein the
'ost of luildinu pennnrent roads
has been figured out on a scien
tific basis. The bo figures kmc a
world of information and should
Ik? studied by every taxpayer in
the county They shew that the
cost of Rood permanent roads,
when everything is taken into
consideration, will oe so slight
that taxpayers should have no
hesitation in voting for the
bonds. The cost of hauhnjr pro
duce over mud roads, if taken in
comparison with haulinR pro
ducts over Rood roads, will be
lessened no very materially that
the cost of building roads will be
Ftill smaller than the figures
ould indicate. The petitions
are out calling for a bond elec
tion to raise $:jGo.ou for the
purpose of building permanent
roads in various parts of the
county. The distribution of
these funds, so we are informed,

has been taken up at a public
meeting of the taxpayers and
the county court with the result
as stated in the petition and as
i.rinil in Thk Mist last week.
It is presumed that this distribu
tion is satisfactory to all por
tions of th county, nrid that the
amount named will be sufficient
to make the roads as prayed for
in the petition. The election for
the bond issue will in all proba
bility be called at the r.ext sot.
sion of the county court and will
be held some time in the latter
part of January, so that in case
the Ixnid issue prevails the sale
can be made and the funds be
ready for work as early in the
s.-ring as the weather will per
mit of working. The surveys
are nearly completed under the
direction of the state highway
engineer. Everything seems to
lie moving towards the con
struction of good roads in Co
lumbia county during the r.ext
year.
