Just four years k'o the elec
tric lights w ere put in S'. Helens
The system has been popular
ince the very first nitfht the
liirhts were turned on. There is
hamly a res;dence in the city
now without them. Kvery busi
ness house has them and wonder
how they K't alonjf without them
for lontf. The streets have
iu'en lighted u every ni'ht
since then and more lights are
heinj? added each month. Hur
inu the last two years, since the
plant was enlarged to accommo
date the increasing d e m a n d.
there has never leen a night that
the lights were out for more than
a few minutes at a time, and
those times were few and far be
tween. We are not in a position
to sny that a day system would
liea paying investment for the
litdit company, but from the way
things are going in St. Helens it
is only a question of a short time
until it will pay, and when that
time arrives it is pretty safe to
ay thai the service will !eex
tendi d. St. Helens has excellent
lighting service now and it is appreciated.
St. Helens is growing and is
poing to continue to grow. lUisi

The Mint is keeping up with the
times. There is more demand for
the paper than ever before, so
t? are having installed a type
"ttinr 'ii tchine capable of turn
ing out considerable more news
"latter than can be handled by
hand composition, we are going
to keep in the lead of the proces
ion hy making the Mist one of
the leading papers in the state.
Really one does not realize how
"liny insane people are running
utonmhiles until a trip is taken
to Portland on Sunday after

host observed turning the cor
