unhealthy for a fool woman like
that so-called doctor, who ap

ay she would be handled would
be a lesson to these paid atritators
that they would not soon forget,
regardless of the yellow journals
and the ravines of the mad anti-
government mob. Ueally it j
hard to believe that men who are'
charged w ith the enforcement of
the laws would permit such j
things to k( on so far as they
have in l'ortland. It looks like
they were afraid of something;
afraid that the anarchist papers
will scorch them, or that some
certain organization will renu m
ber them politically or that there
is something behind their in
action that would not be whole
some readinjf if published. In
ry event the officers have now
been placed in a position where
they actually were compelled to
do something and let us hope
that they will now (to to the very
limit in enforcing the laws and

A news dispatch from F.ugene
I 'ays that the cannery of the
Fruit Crow-era Association at
that place is running to full ca

berries or rasoberries are being
turned out for every minute of
the working day. If the fruit
growers of Lane Countv can ac
complish such results there is no
reason why the fruit growers of
Columbia County cannot do as

toast that has better soil, climate
and other conditions for produc

it would have taken at least two

the next day or so. Down river
points are in about the same con

that Home improvement in the
mail service from St. Helens be
made.
There was considerable criti
cism of the action of the council
for passing the dog muzzling or
dinance when it became gener
ally known, but since the two
deaths in l'ortland from rabies
and the spread of the disease to
swine and other slock in the
country there is no one who will
oppose the measure. It is for
the protection of the public and
should be strictly adhered to by
the owners of dogs. If you have
a dog that is worth keeping put
a muzzle on it or the Marshal will
get it.
