Since taking over the business I have replenished the stock with new fresh groceries and canned goods. Mrs. Jack Appleton, RAILROATJACTIVITY A crew of about 100 men will soon be at work constructing two miles of railroad on the line of the St. Helens Timber Co, formerly known as the Mas ten road. The grading machinery has arrived and work has already commenced. An other crew with grading machinery has also arrived to build a spur from St. Helens to the new mill now being erected by Sherman Brothers on the tract of land for merly owned by the Oregon Wood Co. near the reservoir of the city water works. This spur will be some three miles in length and will be rushed to completion at once. STARTED ! The teachers of the St. Helens schools who live away from here have departed, or w ill within a few days. 1'rof. and Mrs. Thomason going to Olympia. Wash., where they will enter the services of the State Superintendent; Miss Neill has gone to her home at Vancouver. Wash., Miss Weed to her home at Vernonia, Miss Hazen to her home at Sodaville. Misses May and Lizzie Farnum will leave next week for Southern California, where they will spend the vacation, and Miss I'hilip will be at home in this city. Most of these teachers will be in the schools next year again. The pavillion will be a one story building large enough to J hold all the exhibits and in addi-! tion several sheds for the accommo-' dation of stock will be built. The' committee in charge of the work is ! making every effort to make this' the greatest fair ever held in the! county and that they will succeed there is no doubt.
