On Wednesday afternoon the
349th anniversary of the birth of
William Shakespeare was observed
by a special recitation of the
Shakespeare class. Each member
of the class gave a selected quota
tion, or in some other maimer ap
peared on the program, while Dr.
Edwin Ross talked on "As You Like
It," the play just read by the class.

Deputy Sheriff Lake was called
to Marshland this week to settle
the difficulties between the con
struction crew of the new railroad
building from West port to the Ne
halem and the settlers through
whose land the road passes. Ijist

amount of the damages to be paid
by the company for right of way.
but the farmers evidently were not
satisfied, so they held the crew up.
As soon as Mr. Lake explained mat
ters to the residents they were
satisfied and work was resumed.

The Circuit Court, regular May
term, will open in St. Helens on
Tuesday, May 13th. at which time
the grand jury will be called to-
1 gether as well as the trial jury.
There is quite a large docket to be
! taken care of this time and a nurn
j ber of criminal matters to be in
vestigated by the grand jury.
