Womtn ol Woodcraft, meet the arcntKl mid (onrth Tut lay afternoon of rn-h month at Hoiilton, Ore. Mra. Kla Wikhtn ni, ( u a rdian Nelltor. KcaiHotP, Off. ; Minnie A. Mmlt-y, Clerk. In this iasue appears the or- 3 dinance passed by the City Coun cil at the meetintr last Monday nitfht repealing Ordinance No. IS), which in effect is to do away with the limit of the nurnlwr of saloons in the city. Ordinance No. 120 was'passed about a yenr Btfo and provided that no more than ftur saloons would be per mitted in the city until the popu lation reached 2500. The council has now taken off the limit bo that as'niany saloons can run here as can Ret licenses. There is some misgiving on the part of some people, of the city that this action will be the cause of the starting- of Heveral more saloons, but it is not leasonable to sup pose that such will be the case. There will be no more saloons lu re than can get licenses and can make money. If there is room for moroBnloons there will U more: if there is not room there will not be more. The con ditions under the new ordinance will place the city in the same condition that it was prior to rne year a;o and there was no cause then to feel alarm. The proper thirty to do is to elect a fair minded and strict council ar.d let them decide as to the nicest ity for more saloons. Thry have it in their power to grant licences and it makes little dilTerer.ce whether the ordinance limits the numU-r or not. the council ran control the situation and will h ive to do so. n ST.
