Paper There Is no county in the itate of Oregon that is so little known by the people at large as is Columbia. This in spite of the fact that there is no county in the state so well and favorably situated for publicity. Right in the front door of Portland, on tho Columbia river between the metropolis and the sea, with rich farming, dairying and fruit growing lands, with untold wealth in the forests and great undeveloped power for manu facturing sites, and with 15,000 prosperous and contented people who are assessed over $15,000,000, and yet, outside of the people who have actually lived in the county, Columbia county is looked upon as being a county with parse settlement, no wealth, no Concevi by Payor's Band At mir Hi re today, rtiny oth. r tune y. u v. ant t. lur it. The facts in the case are that the entire cost of material and construction was borne by J. B.Godfrey and Wm. Ross, so the city nor any rther property owner or taxpayer I aid any money for the bridge. It wa a most important improve ment too, as many people who live across the creek find that the bridge is very convenient in getting to the city. Instead of criticism the men who built the bridge are entitled to credit and praise. This would be a good time to repair a lot of Bidewalks in town that need it.
