Isom Mitchell To Graduate From
Highway Technology Next June

at O.T.I, next June is Kdwarri
Iom Mitchell, former local resi
dent vell-kmn in these parts.
Isom enrolled in highway tech
nology when it was first heun
at O.T.I, in September, 195o, and
feels that it is a course which
has a lot of job possibilities. He
explains that the course is spon
sored by the Oregon State High
way ("ommission and that this
year's graduates, about twelve in
number, have standing job offers
from the Commission. Isom also
points ti t that employment op
portunities will be greatly en
hanced by the federal highway
construction program which
Congress passed in 1956 and
which was also a factor in get
ting the course started at O.T.I.
Some of the subjects which
Isom is taking are: surveying,
drawing (including structural
blueprint reading and estimating
and advanced drawing of various
types of maps), soil mechanics
(including theory of properties
of soils), concrete and asphalt,
and hydraulics. Allied subjects in
clude Kuglisli composition, tech
nical mathematics, physics, and
technical report writing.
When Isom gets through these
and other courses, he will re
ceive an associate engineer's de
cree. He points out that with
such a degree he could go on the
job for the State as an engineer's
aide I, a position carrying con
siderable, opportunity for ad
vancement. However. Isom be
lieves right now that he'll seek
employment with a private com
pany, having received consider
able experience at such work last
summer when he was employed
by Cunningham Construction Co.
working on the Klamath Kails
city sewage plant under the resi
dent engineer.
While attending school Isom
resides at O.T.I, with his wife,
Lvdia, and daughter, Elizabeth.
Fifty-Three Students Now Taking
Training Under Klamath Education Program
Fifty-three students are enrolled at the present time under
the Klamath Education Program in various vocational schools and
colleges throughout the State. There names, courses, and schools
