Several , of the most prominent business men have said that" this matter MUST be brought to a focus. ' They demand that the butcher guilty of this Crime be exposed, and promptly. If no such crime has been committed, . then.they expect the officials to discover the Wren man publish-; ing that irresponsible article and. make an example of him. Two or three say they spoke to Attor ney Bryson about this matter, but that he laughed it on as unworthy of consideration: For this he is censured. Unfortun ately he is now out of the city and immediate action can not be hoped for. Batchers Should Act It is just a little difficult to understand why the Corvallis butchers do not act in this mat ter. As it stands, ALL must rest under the suspicion of sel- ing this diseased beef. The statement was that a Corvallis Dutcner was guilty, ana as no name was mentioned all are open to suspicion. The guiltless ones should be ready to take prompt action to clear their own skirts, and if none is guilty then all should be glad to join in prosecu tion of the Wren irresponsible As the matter stands now, no one has the assurance - that he is not buying diseased meat. The statement made in this office this morning by one of the most prominent merchants in this city was to the effect that this matter is going to be brought before the city council and county commissioners at once. Just what these bodies may be expected to do is a matter of conjecture, but the statement shows the state of some men's minds in regard to this matter. This merchant said that he had discussed the matter with other business men and they are deter mined to arouse somebody to action. It isi regarded as very repulsive, and these animals are seldom ever sold locally. They are shipped to Portland and the ' other big.. cities. When in too bad "shape they are killed and fed to, hogs. "Lumpy jaw" (which the Wren writer may havameant) is a can cerous: disease: of the: jaw that finally affects the entire system of the animal. Until the disease gets far along, some of the ani-; mals are killed and used for food, though the veterinaries do not recommend it. To the ordinarily sane person the idea of eating either big head or lumpy-jaw meat is enough to make him want to set fire, to something i-i ; - The Road to Success ITxTjaD IFip Tirfiflss tie SAN FRANCISCO, SAN JOSE, SANTA CRUZ, LOS ANGELES and all the principal cities , of California.
