SPORTS REPORTER
Healthy and going full speed, Ore
gon’s Terrence Whitehead again dis
played the ability to have a big game
against a ranked opponent.
Entering the game against then
ranked No. 17 Arizona State as under
dogs, Whitehead became the first Ore
gon player in 35 years to run for and
receive 100-plus yards in helping Ore
gon upset the Sun Devils 31-17.
Whitehead ran for 122 yards on 21
carries and 100 yards on 9 catches.
This after Whitehead ran for 96
yards and a touchdown and caught a
second touchdown against then-No.
23 Fresno State earlier this season.
Whitehead’s performance against
Arizona State was the first time an Ore
gon player had run and caught more
than 100 yards in one game since Bob
by Moore against UCLA in 1970.
Whitehead moved to seventh on
Oregon’s all-purpose yards list with
3,679 in his career. He passed Don
Reynolds and Terry Obee.
Quarterback Kellen Clemens
climbed to third on Oregon’s passing
yards list with 6,943. The senior quar
terback moves past Chris Miller and
Joey Harrington and now only trails
Bill Musgrave and Danny O’Neil.
Clemens 56 career touchdown pass
es trails Harrington’s 59, Musgrave’s
60 and the leader O’Neil with 62. Addi
tionally, Clemens’ 567 career comple
tions trails Musgrave’s 634 and
O’Neil’s 636. Only four Oregon quar
terbacks, including O’Neil, Miller,
Musgrave and Dan Fouts, have at
tempted more passes than Clemens.
One of Clemens frequent targets, wide
receiver Demetrius Williams, has six
touchdown catches this season and
has the single-season record of 10 by
Tony Hartley, Cristin McLemore and
Moore within reach.

redshirt year against Stanford two
weeks ago, the Ducks have a full com
plement of running backs.
Against Arizona State, Oregon had
four other players besides Whitehead
combine for 123 yards on 22 carries.
Clemens and Jonathan Stewart each
had nine carries and ran for 55 and 34
yards, respectively. Demetrius
Williams ran once for 22 yards and
Johnson ran three times for 12 yards.
Johnson also had one kickoff return
for 21 yards.
Replacing Martinez
Matt Evensen filled in perfectly for
injured kicker Paul Martinez, one week
after not making the trip to Stanford.
It was determined in pre-game that
Martinez would be unable to play be
cause of a strained right thigh muscle
on his right leg.
Martinez has made 15 of 19 field
goals this season and earned Pac-10
Player of the Week honors twice. He
came out for pre-game warmups and
afterward appeared to be favoring his
right leg, according to media reports.
Evenson was efficient, however, hit
ting two 42-yard field goals and a 51
yarder right before halftime. He also
connected on two point after touch
down attempts.
Additionally, Evensen handled all
seven kickoffs.
Evensen’s strong play was acknowl
edged with Pacific-10 Conference Foot
ball Player of the Week Honors.
Evensen’s award marks the third time
an Oregon kicker has been honored
this season, with Martinez earning
recognition after games against Hous
ton and Montana to start the season.
Active Trucks
Anthony Trucks was a disruptive
force against Arizona State and quar
terback Sam Keller. Thicks had three
sacks for 12 yards and four tackles for
15 yards lost.
Thicks posted 11 total tackles, in
cluding 10 solo. He helped Oregon’s
defense limit Arizona State to 53 yards
rushing and 330 yards total offense.
The Sun Devil offense normally aver
ages 518.7 yards per game.
He became Oregon’s second defen
sive player to earn Pac-10 Conference
Football Player of the Week honors.
Linebacker A.J. Tliitele was honored
after recording 11 tackles, seven solo,
against Fresno State Sept. 17.
